Forums - Sony - Tales of Zestiria Won’t Come to PS4 (For Now); Tales Series Currently Only for PlayStation

Why is people saying that Jrpgs are ending and that this will be the last one on consoles?... come on for the PS4 FIRST year we already have: Persona 5, Neptunia VII, Fairy Fencer F Advent Dark Force, Omega Quintet, and a BUNCH of other japanese titles like, Disgaea 5, God Eater 2 Rage Burst, Senran Kagura Estival Versus, Onechanbara Z2, Dragon Quest Heroes etc.

and it is OBVIOUS that the Tales games will eventually come to the PS4 afterall their main fanbase is on PS... just look at how thing have been lately, almost every exclusive Tales game for the xbox or Nintendo has come to the PS3 (or a PS console) and they normally sell better on it, Tales of Graces (Wii) global sales: 220.000 and then Tales of Graces F (PS3) 880.000...

Tales of Vesperia on PS3 didnt sold as much as the 360 version but it never came to the west and even then it sill sold 400.000+ copies versus the global 600.00 copies of the 360 version.

Tales of Symphonia Chronicles a collection of the Symphonia games came to the PS3 and Tales of Hearts is now coming to the PS VITA, plus the last THREE mayor Tales game have been exclusive to PS, Xillia, Xillia 2 and now Zestiria.

thinking that there wont be a PS4 tales game in the future is madness, even if the system doesnt do well on japan the Tales games do sell well on the WEST.

Plus on this interview Hideo Baba said that "for the moment the strategy is to release Tales Of games only on PlayStation" and i doubt he is just talking about Zestiria for the PS3 after all he said Tales of Games in plural... there must be more games to come in the future after all i doubt Zestiria will be the last tales game.

Its ending for XBone.

Why did they release it there in the first place on the Xbox om the first place? Did they not see the sales of similar games?

The 360 version of Veperia actually sold pretty good for a Tales game almost 700K and I'm sure it sold over 100K digital copies also.

according to wiki. (i don't know how accurate this is)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tales_of_Vesperia
360 Sales of Tales of Vesperia

According to Famitsu's annual top 100, Vesperia was the 82nd best selling title in Japan in 2008 having sold 161,070 copies.[37] The launch of Tales of Vesperia in Japan caused the Xbox 360 to sell out for the first time since the system's release in Japan.[38] With 204,305 copies sold, it is currently the second best-selling Xbox 360 game ever in Japan, behind Star Ocean: The Last Hope.[39] In North America, Tales of Vesperia sold 33,000 copies during the 4 days after its 26 August launch.[40]

Tales of Vesperia for the PlayStation 3 sold 147,000 copies on its opening day, which is more than double that of the Xbox 360's version, which sold 71,000 copies on its opening day and a total of 140,000 in two weeks.[41][42] Tales of Vesperia for the PlayStation 3 sold a total of 352,961 copies in by the end of 2009 making it the 24th best selling game in Japan of 2009.[43]

Namco Bandai reported on their tax reports that Tales of Vesperia PS3 has sold just 450,000 copies in Japan since its launch in 2009 until the launch of Tales of Xillia

I have Tales of Vesperia in JP.If they remaster it and release it on PS4, I would buy it in a New York minute.

Is it really that hard for Namco to release Tales of on both Xbox and PS? I mean it's not like they're a small publisher or anything so I don't see the problem here *rolls eyes at Namco and Tales of team*

Don't be too hard on them. The Tales Studio was actually once a big team (I think they had 2 teams then). They envisioned themselves to be like Square Soft and that Tales could be like FF. That's why they had Tales on the 360, Wii, PSP and DS at the beginning of the previous generation, all different titles but most of them didn't hit the sales number.

The one that hurt them the most was Tales of Hearts for the DS when (for some unknown reason) they created 2 versions of the game with a budget of a console Triple AAA game.

The studio almost (or did) went to bankruptcy back in 2011, if I'm not mistaken and then they released Tales of Xillia on the PS3 in Japan and saw better western sales from Tales of Graces F the following year. So they started playing safe since then.

Tales had two main teams working on the games, but since the studio was absorbed by Namco, it became one big team.

They didn't put the Tales on different platforms to be like FF. I'm not sure where you got that from. They were really just testing the markets, and with Vesperia they got an incentive from MS. In the end they realized that despite the PS3's initial lukewarm sales, the main Tales fanbase was there.

Also, on the bankruptcy, it was actually misreported.

Yeah MS was the publisher of ToV in the west, so I guess they got money hatted on that. lol!

Are youy sure about the bankruptcy thing? I think Tales Studio wasn't 100% owned by Bamco before they encountered money issues and was absorbed because of that. Kinda like what happened to Atlus with Sega or something close to that.

Namco was the publisher of Vesperia in the West actually. I wouldn't be surprised if MS helped with the localization considering the fast turnaround time though.

Also,

This was some of the most overblown misreporting I have seen yet, and you still keep repeating this bullshit after 4 years. Stop it!
I repeat: Tales Studio never ever has been factually independent. Tales Studio never had any income and expenses of their own, it all always went through Bandai Namco Games. Tales Studio was always fully dependent on the money from Bandai Namco Games, and was never in the position to make independent decisions about any IP. The only reason such a (false) reporting was even possible is that Tales Studio, having started as a cooperation between Telenet Japan and Namco, was set up as a public company with legal obligations to do yearly reporting. Someone once (in 2010) looked at one such report, saw near zero equity and negative income and concluded "yeah, they must be dying"...

Well I guess that explains everything on why we aren't getting Patty the Pirate. :(

Someone should change Wiki then, if that's true. :/

It doesn't mean they own the localization. People spread similar rumors about Tales of Symphonia, but that got a PS3 release over here just fine. Games like Star Ocean 4 and Eternal Sonata (another Namco game) were in similar situations but they still released over here.

It's been repeated in the past that it's just an issue of timing. If they remaster Vesperia for its 10th anniversary or something for PS4, it should come over here.

Oh gawd! your giving me HOPE! @_@

"Xbox exclusive experiment done with Tales of Vesperia won’t be repeated."

Wow, I've got to say, this guy knows where his fanbase are.

No. if, he did, the game would also be released on Wii U and xillia 1 + 2 would also be ported there.
