Forums - Sony - Tales of Zestiria Won’t Come to PS4 (For Now); Tales Series Currently Only for PlayStation

Is it really that hard for Namco to release Tales of on both Xbox and PS? I mean it's not like they're a small publisher or anything so I don't see the problem here *rolls eyes at Namco and Tales of team*

Don't be too hard on them. The Tales Studio was actually once a big team (I think they had 2 teams then). They envisioned themselves to be like Square Soft and that Tales could be like FF. That's why they had Tales on the 360, Wii, PSP and DS at the beginning of the previous generation, all different titles but most of them didn't hit the sales number.

The one that hurt them the most was Tales of Hearts for the DS when (for some unknown reason) they created 2 versions of the game with a budget of a console Triple AAA game.

The studio almost (or did) went to bankruptcy back in 2011, if I'm not mistaken and then they released Tales of Xillia on the PS3 in Japan and saw better western sales from Tales of Graces F the following year. So they started playing safe since then.

it would come to PS4 and would be the remastered edition.

"and the Xbox exclusive experiment done with Tales of Vesperia won’t be repeated."

Who would have thought that Namco of all 3rd parties would be the first to learn this lesson? I guess the Japanese players breaking their X360 discs in half and throwing them in the trash was a real eye opener for their PR department. There was a time that I thought SE learned this lesson but that was before the TR debacle.

I expect Tales of Xillia collection and Tales of Zestiria for PS4 in the future.

It's not about being hard,it's about being profitable!

360 was the best selling Xbox console worldwide(including japan) and j-rpgs sold like shit most of the time. And even when it sold well,PS3 sold way better.

Xone is set to sell <100k ltd in japan(Unless some miracle happen),so japanese sales will be really bad.

The true is,Japanese people will buy a PS/Nintendo for japanese games. And if you are a Western gamer that like J-games,chances are you have a PS/Nintendo or plan to buy a PS/Nintendo.

In other words, there is not enough Japanese/weeaboos gamers as Xbox loyalists. It's a demographic problem that always existed but it's worse with Xone thanks to the mediocre global sales.

So why should they spent money, time and energy doing this port/more complex pipeline?

Yeah I get not releasing it on the Xbone as it will do terrible in Japan. Tales of though is still on the 7th gen hardware where 360 has a sizeable userbase even in Japan, and I don't even care if they release it on Xbox in Japan I just want it in the west on Xbox.  Tales of Vesperia sold 290k on 360 in N. America and 190k in Europe. Pretty good numbers for a small niche game like Tales of if you ask me.

Yeah definitely but for this to happen MS would have to approach Namco(and by approach i mean $$$).But right now MS is focused in 'merica desperately trying to beat Sony  with madden deal + MCC.Even europe, that is a bigger market than asia for xbox,is kind of undersupported by them.

My honest opinion,MS should do Lost odissey 2,blue dragon 2 and some new second party j-ips(like Nintendo is doing with Fatal frame/Bayonetta 2).Even if don't sell well,it's a try and will definitely move some HW and increase the week's sale base!

Oh well that makes a little more sense then. Can't be helped really then not that I mind playing the games on PS3.

Are these developers trying to kill off console jRPGs in the West?

Has there been a single jRPG released on PS4/Xbox One? It's just pathetic.

There's definitely a market there, but they seem determined to shoot themselves in the foot

Only jRPGs you're going to see in the near future are on the 3DS.

The only console one you'll see in the next year or two is Xenoblade X.

I don't really want to buy one, but I don't really have much choice do I. I guess I get KH II.5 HD though

Would have loved to see Tales return on Xbox, but I'll live.

Sucks that's it not on PS4 though.

Yea I don't have an xbox anymore but on the 360 tales of vesperia was one of my favorite games on that system.

Blame the PS3 for crippling the industry and for M$ for moneyhatting whatever was left of the industry into dead-ends.
