The world seems interesting. Characters not so much.

How do you come to that conclusion in two minutes?

By watching the video and finding their appearance to be pretty generic and unappealing? I'm not a fan of the all black spikey haired emo/hipster/boy band look. Sorry?

Yet, you rated a mostly brown, gray and green game 9.4: MGS 4.

let it go man... haters gonna hate. Thats kinda what they do.

Its really funny (especially when you consider that this is a FF game we are talking about here) that soooooooooo much and everything can be seen from a 2min trailer.

For all those talking about the whole era clashing thing, all i will say is; please go and watch a trailer of Final fantasy advent children.

And as for the boy bnd thingy, i would take this to a muscle clad, bald and/hooded protagonists anyday everyday. That aside, please remember that this IS a japanese title. These are the kinda things that its primary audience are  into.

Lastly, every final fantasy game is different.so I really don't get the like other final fantasies argument.

Here is a question... I have never played a FF game before... RPGs never been my thing, but now I am willing to give it a go for some RPGs as long has they are more action oriented, do you guys think I can just play this game without the need to play anyother FF game and is this the type of RPG you think I would like based on the previous description I gave you?

My (cynical) thoughts in no particular order:

  • I expect the road trip elements come from the early game, so we're looking at the first 5-10 hours here. This is almost certainly before the game opens up.
  • It increasingly looks like they've ditched EncounterSpace and made gameplay consistent in and out of battle, and battle abilities will solve puzzles out of combat. ABOUT DAMN TIME.
  • It also looks like you only directly control Noctis. I can live with that, actually.
  • I SERIOUSLY DOUBT that party member AI will be as smooth and lifelike as that in the game. Do you really think they're going to program GESTURES AND BODY LANGUAGE into the friendly AI on top of the dialogue? Technically that's possible, but I think it's much more likely this shit's scripted. I'll settle for a few scripted instances.
  • The Graphics: I expect a downgrade that probably COULD run on Wii U. I'll still be happy. After XIII I really stopped caring about FF becoming prettier. I will never mind prettier, but I don't need it.

I'm definitely pumped that we have a new FF title coming, but the things that they're advertising are also things I'm conditioned to not expect from video games. And that disclaimer they've had for the last two trailers; it's like they know they're doing false advertising. I REALLY want to believe this will be everything it looks like, but I just can't bring myself to be that optimistic. And the director stepping down so late in the game doesn't bode well, either.

If they do get the AI to consistently be that fluid in actual gameplay, this game will totally be worth the ten year wait, perhaps even longer. It could be game of the gen on that regard alone. But I don't think they will. I will, however, settle for a game with gameplay someone actually thought out and playtested and a story with a bone or two of subtlety.

Maybe things have changed since then but in the 2011 trailer (PS3 footage) you could control other party members

Yet, you rated a mostly brown, gray and green game with characters mostly wearing leather, trench coats and skin tight suits a 9.4: MGS 4.

But then again, you rated Valkyria Chronicles a 6.5 and Final Fantasy IX a 4. So forgive us if we don't give what you think much credibility.

You guys are funny. I don't like what you like. Hopefully, one day you'll learn to accept and expect that from others.

I know, right?

FF VII, VIII, IX, and X are all the same! It's the same world! The same kind of characters! The same exact mix of technology and fantasy!

Final Fantasy games are stand-alone unless they`re sequels (E.g., Final Fantasy X-2).

If you like fast paced gameplay, then I think you`ll be ok with this one. If you like more slow paced gameplay, then go with turn based stuff.

I don't really understand why people hate a party of all guys?

Im not sure i like the car deal, but other than that seen pretty damm cool

in final fantasy lore not having the car would simply mean one of a few things

  • You either have a world map that is disproportionate littered with random battles (FF9, FF8, FF7. FF6, FF5, FF4, FF3)
  • you have what appears to be a large world map but is really a point to point affair with minimalistic exploration (FF13, FF12)
  • You do not see the rest of your party in the world map (FF1-FF10)
  • You go everywhere on an ostrich with a big head (chocobo)
I dunno, I would at least like a final fantasy like this for a change. Now lets just hope its not also a point to point affair and the world map is ctually open.

Yes. That's one of the great things about this series. No two roman numbered game is the same universe. They're all their own thing.

Now, the game isn't out yet, obviously, but FF XV is said to be much more action RPG than any other that came before it. I don't think you can go wrong starting with this one. Battles are real time and fast paced, just like you seem to be looking for.

For sure! all FF games are set in different worlds/universes with new characters and story

Unless its a direct sequel like Final Fantasy X-2 for example or a spinoff game like Dissidia
