One of the great things about the online experience in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, which is currently out in Japan, is that Nintendo will actually smack players with a temporary ban for disconnecting too much, or exhibiting poor player behavior such as ganging up on a single opponent in an extreme manner.

The game informs you about that as soon as you step into the world of online. But what it doesn't tell you is that Nintendo will also temporarily ban players they suspect of using cheats in the "For Glory" mode of online play, in which all matches are played tournament-style -- on the Final Destination versions of stages with no items.

At the moment, it appears that if you choose to play as Peach in the For Glory mode online, there is a high chance that you will get banned for using cheats -- due to a bug. 

According to a user on the 2ch forums in Japanese (translated by us):

Do note that although Peach's down+B move is currently suspected as the main culprit for the ban, it is at best a theory, and may not be the actual cause of the ban. 

After all, Peach is not the only character who can pull out an item for throwing at her opponents. Link's down+B, for instance, is another similar move that lets him pull out a bomb -- but the bug does not affect Link players. 

The current theory players have come up with is that Link's bomb is not something you can equip as an item in Customize mode, whereas Peach can pull out regular items.

Nevertheless, this sure is one odd glitch. On the one hand, it's great to see Nintendo implementing solid fraud detection and ban-hammer measures in the new Super Smash Bros. game. 

But on the other, smacking players with a 1-day ban without any warning seems a little much -- the game has been out for less than 2 days, and already there are players stuck with an online ban for 24 hours.

Hope they patch it before US release. Peach is the only player I can really play as competitively, and that Turnip is a key part of my play style.

Hmm, that is actually pretty worrysome cause its not really the players fault and having the game decide the outcome is kinda eeshhh. If its in the game, it shouldnt be bannable even if it gets exploited (unless its for hacking reasons)... Instead what they should do is release a hotfix for it instead of just using the ban hammer.... I hope fix this issue soon cause thats just stupid

I'd be pretty pissed if I waited in line to get a new game and got arbitrarily banned. Obviously, not the end of the world, but it would be nice if Nintendo did a little something to make it right.

On the plus side, it's good to see Nintendo is being vigilant about hacking.

Then again, it's a special, very special, thing to be the only character who can result in bans. It must be a test of courage to use her in this state. I commend those who did so and did not get banned.
