Forums - Microsoft - Yet Another Game May Not Come To The Xbox One Due To Parity Clause

Who cares about indie games on X1 anyway?

We like to have indie games on PS4 so we can gloat about how many games it has.
We like to have indie games on WiiU because we want something ... pretty much anything new to play.
We like to have indie games on PC because, wth, $2 for this game? OK

What niche do indie games fill on the X1?

I'm tired of the term "Indie Games."  A game is a game.  Period.  More games on any gaming platform can only be a good thing.

This clause has been broken multiple times, minds well get rid of it.

Totally agree, if you are going to break this rule for some, then really it's a stupid rule to exclude others under the same rule (though I find the rule of preventing games coming to your platform silly anyway).

Making an indie game : Dead of Day!

Seriously. How can MS not realize this parity clause is only hurting them? They want something from indie devs that they simply don't have the resources to do.

Wonder if they'll make an exception for No Man's Sky

I think they will as long it's technically the same as the PS4 version

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Most first on PlayStation games is at risk of never coming to xbox due to the MS parity clause.

I say most because they do make some exceptions.

Well several games that were on PS4 have been ported to X1 late.

I'm starting to question if the parity clause is even enforced.

In all honesty, it's probably as simple as calling Microsoft and talking to the guy in charge of the program.  They want the clause to be there in order to pressure small developers but they don't want it to keep games off Xbox.  In other words, at this point, it's probably just an extra layer of red tape and a big, fat bluff.

People have to remember that Microsoft didn't want to allow self-publishing.  They wanted all the control that they had with the 360 but all the inital pressure and bad press sank that ship very quickly.  Last gen, their policy was that they would not publish games that had been on other platforms, forcing those developers to find an outside publisher.  While that was a bad deal for many small developers--and the sole reason why games like Machinarium skipped the 360--Xbox Live was in the cat-bird seat at the time.  They could force most developers to cave.

The parity clause, from my point of view, was thier attempt to keep some of the control despite having to allow self-publishing.  I think they wanted to sneak it by the media.  It's kind of like when an airline advertises free in-flight movies, then charges you $5 to rent earphones.

Obviously, they failed in that, mostly because they were no longer in a position to dictate terms without opposition.

Stuff like this doesnt take a genius, just some common sense which if they are disconnected from reality enough, they dont see it, though i think someone like phil will resolve it soon for the brands sake. if there is pushback its a know-nothing exec in MS.

There has to be pushback going on because I don't see why Phil wouldn't have done away with this already.

agreed, they dont count as REAL games unless the textures are of a certain size and the explosions are also of a certain size with tons of particles that make it look real badass,if they're not, than the game cant be fun,it just cant.. k,im gonna go jump off a building now
