Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft Nearing Deal To Purchase Minecraft for $2 Billion CNBC Reports

Nah, Goldeneye is still awesome, even if it's horrible to play with a N64 controller.

Also no future success? How about Timesplitters?

A modest success at best and it didn't last.

Haze might have been a bigger success if it was multiplat and that game is pretty crappy.

Their former glory was hype.

Their best days were on the SNES. Everything they did on the N64 was over rated.

Even the former employees of Rare haven't done anything noteworthy.

Nearly everything they ever did on Nintendo platforms was brilliant. Microsoft wasted their talent away and now they are nothing. That can't be denied. Microsoft ruined Rare.

I think what ruined Rare was their inability to create games that Xbox fans enjoy. Rare rode the coattails of Nintendo.

Rare's only work that actually passed the test of time is their 8 and 16 bit games. Most of N64 work was hype and aged horribly.

As I've said before, if that old Rare team was as talented as you believe they would have moved to another studio and created hits. As far as I'm aware that didn't happen.

Pretty much every game from the N64/PS1/Saturn gen has aged horribly so that's not really something you can't hold against them or that was exclusive to Rare games.

Nintendo and Rare were very much a creative collaboration. Microsoft's relationship has been quite different from all accounts.

Because it's not a good deal financially, and it doesn't give Xbox owners anything they don't already have.

ms got a shit ton of money offshore they need to invest out of the usa to avoid tax penalties

this game can easily generate a return of investment.

its not even 3 years old.

not even peaked, becaus current gen realse is right now and mobile release not a long time ago.

minecraft via windows store for win 8 / 9

finally minecraft for winows phone

all marketing will be xbox and windows

this deal was not done to benefit xbox owners. it was done to benefit microsoft. or did the xbox owner payed the 2.5 billion dollar bill?

but it will benefit them, too. strong ips and a stronger platform will help to keep third party support etc.

and now ms got all freedom to do whatever they want to make this game a better experience on xbox (ofc this could go good or bad)

MS got a shit ton of moneu so they should just waste it? No it can not easily generate a return on the investment. It will have to sell at the same rate as it is now to break even in 17-20 years, and if we add extra sales from PS4/Xbox One, and asuming that it doesn't decrease for anything else for the next decade and a half, then they'll make their money back in "just" ~12-15 years.

did i say that?

ur the only one here, who think its a waste

and 10 years to get 100% of the invested money back is a very good (short) timeframe.

what do u think how long it will take facebook to get the 16billion form whatsapp back?

thats not how it works. its not only about getting ur spend money back...

and its not about getting ur money back with only that part u invested in.

what im talking about is called synergy effects (and yes even minecraft will have that. all servers running on azzure and ms cloud, more appeal for surface and wp etc..)

No, I'm not the only one who thinks it's a waste, there are plenty others who agree with me.

And it will take 12 years if it sells at it's current pace+PS4/XBO boost, for the next 12 years, but it won't last that long. Even Minecraft doesn't have the legs to sell another 120 million copies.
