That is because there is no phone better than iPhone 5S until... maybe iPhone 6.

No, they improve quality by increasing the accuracy of the sensor pixels. That gets you better photos without jacking up file size.
Honestly, there are so many ways to improve a camera beyond just pixel count that it might be even worse than the megahertz wars.
