It is a little odd actually.

It's not odd at all, the servers didnt officially go live until today.

Can you imagine the outrage from gamers when a review comes in and calls is 7/10... gamers will be up in arms saying "How the hell can you review an MMO when the servers are not on until today".

With gamergate going on (lots of people complaining about the gaming press) I dont think it would be a good time to do a review of an MMO before it's actually online (i.e its impossible..lol) and still keep any resemblence of credibility.

Don't they usually turn servers on early for review copies of the game though?

Well how would you know the difference between reviewers and gamers who got the game early. So yeah they could have, but i think it's more disappointing people releasing videos of areas etc of the game before you even get a chance to load/play it. Especially a release this big.

Gamers have to get used to release day/day before embargos I think. Too many games are getting spoiled by players/reviewers.. I mean Eurogamer ruined all the easter eggs in Wolfenstien before I even got to play it... very lame :(

Why would you read a review for an MMO on the first day? That's unbelievably convoluted. Reviewers need a week or two to get s sense for the game and playing with others before giving a review.

Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC

Day One impressions? That's fine.

Actual reviews when the writers haven't played but a fraction of the game? That's silly.

Would you rely on movie reviews where the writer only watched the first 15 minutes of the film?

I already know what to expect with game from the Alpha and Beta so reviews for Destiny would be meaningless to me. Also a Day 1 review of an MMO-like game is stupid.

Let's face it. Most people will ignore the Day 1 reviews, but they will rush to Metacritic to see how well the game is doing.

From what i understand, they looked at setting up servers, but in order to fully populate all the different worlds and events they would have to have thousands of players on at the same time.  So instead of giving reviewers access to a baren online server, they just opted to make them wait for launch.

Since online is so important to this game, I can understand why they went this direction.  It wouldnt have been a representative experience of what you get post launch.

Im pretty sure the server lobbies (planets) have a max of 16 players and the events/raids/whatever have a 4 player max and PVP with 12. I think reviewers could get a decent taste for the game.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

Sure, as long as they are all playing at the same point in the game at the same time...

Yeah, seems to me like Activision fears the game is going to get some bad word of mouth once people actually start playing it, and they're trying to delay that bad word of mouth long enough for early sales to make back that huge 500 million budget.

That's why they made the beta and alpha public.

-_-

OT: This thread is a joke.

In this day and age, with the Internet, ignorance is a choice! And they're still choosing Ignorance! - Dr. Filthy Frank

Why would you need a review to know whether the game is worth it or not? They gave everyone beta access. They could have figured it out themselves.

It's not like Activision has been trying to hide the game in an attempt to fool anyone. They basically said "Here it is, give it a try and see how you like it."

The reason for no day 1 reviews is because it is an MMO style FPS. You can't just load up servers, play for an hour or two and give a full assessment. It wouldn't be even remotely genuine.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Yeah they should so have full day one reviews of games that take weeks or months to fully appreciate. It's not like they had tons of beta periods people could join and play the game to tell for themselves if it was worth buying. Fookin lazy game reviewers I swear, that just proves Destiny all nothing but a shite game that is held up by fake hype. Hype that was designed by Sony fans and feminists/SJWs in order to spite Xbox and Nintendo fans..¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
