because they are losing, sometimes very badly. thats why.

why did sony not post numbers last gen? yup

Exactly, he just should not have said anything. It's quite embarassing to use that as an excuse when they were doing it EVERYTIME when they were winning with the 360.

there is also a big chance they might lose in the holidays too, and if they do and dont say any numbers, well, you know this will be brought up. gamers on forums simply dont forget, i bet some people already tramed marked this and plan on bringing it up again 3 months from now.

All of the big three hide their NPD numbers for the same reason, they don't people to see how one or all of their systems did.

Sony just make short tweets about the PS4 being first, because they don't want people to see the poor Vita performance (a press releases mysteriously leaving out the Vita would be pretty conspicious)

Nintendo often says nothing or just uses percentage increases to hide the actual poorness of the numbers.

MS says nothing nowadays or talks about the Xbox family or uses percentages as well to hide the performance of the X1 compared to the PS4.

They don't publish them because they're getting beaten. As soon as the Xbox One outsells the PlayStation 4 for even a single month, they'll publish NPD numbers.

Even if they do lose, they are not going to have dreadful numbers, they will be decent and newsworthy. Can't see them not releasing them unless they are being outsold by like 2 to 1 which I just can't see.

The NPD criticism is valid, especially when they used to post the numbers all the time. However, it's not different than what anyone else does. It's to be expected that you don't brag about bad numbers.

The new IP thing, though, doesn't make much sense to me. They had Ryse, they have Sunset, and they have Quantum. They're doing much better than with the 360 and I give them credit for that. They'd have another in the works if it wasn't for buying Gears.

i think XB1 is going to have a solid sept-dec in usa. but the possibility of them not announcing numbers in one of the months in the holiday is there, and this guy put himself in a position he shouldnt have IMO. he should have just shut up and ignored the question.

For some reason Microsoft does not seem to post often or prefers to remain silent on NPD numbers. Aaron Greenberg, who is the Global Product Marketing leader for all 1st party and 3rd party games for Xbox, was recently asked why they don’t post the NPD numbers as often.

“Summer is always slow, like pre-season. We tend to focus on holiday when it really counts!,” replied Greenberg on Twitter. There might be another reason why they don’t want to highlight the NPD results. The Xbox One might not be selling as well as the PlayStation 4 and the company wants to obviously highlight the positives. However this reason is just an assumption on our part.

Greenberg also defended against claims that the Xbox One lacks new IPs given that some users may be getting bored due to long running franchises like Forza. As an example, Greenberg quoted the example of Sunset Overdrive which is a new IP as well as an Xbox One exclusive. “Sunset Overdrive is a great new IP and coming exclusive this holiday,” he tweeted.

Greenberg also assured that Sunset Overdrive won’t be coming to the PlayStation 4 by calling the title ‘Exclusive Exclusive!’

Might be?  Aren't we past the point where we aren't sure about which console is performing better/worse?  Would be interesting to see how often Microsoft announced NPD during the 360's strongest years.  I'm curious if they did the same thing then (I wasn't paying as much attention then).   In that vein, I wouldn't be surprised if Sony, at times, didn't release NPD during the PS3's early struggles also.

Wow what a terrible article:

It's not an assumption it's the truth...lol, 5million vs 10 million.
