Forums - Gaming - Microsoft Mocks Sony With "Destiny Fragrance"

Oh man thread is still rolling with people making silly comments about the inspiration and ramifications of this simple marketing ploy. Jeebus. Has anyone seen the Heineken commercial where Doogie Howard circumvents the rule about drinking beer in adverts by drinking it just off camera? This is the same type of stuff. Just meant to be funny. LOL @ the idea that its mocking anyone. LOL @ it harming Destiny and potentially pissing Bungie off.

Well, MS didn't decide to kill off the page themselves, so you judge for yourself how or why it happened.

I didn't know PS4 had so much exclusive content. I'm glad I bought a PS4 over Xbox One this gen.

No, I am not "blowing it out of proportion".  MS violated the LAW with this promotion.  They probably got a cease and desist order, because the site only says "see our retailers" now.

If you don't think intellectual property rights are a big deal to game publishers (or perfume makers for that matter), you are kidding yourself.

Exactly what evidence you have that MS violated any contract.  If you can provide this information that would be helpful.  If this is just your opinion you can just state it as such.

Yeah, that's the fishy part. If the Destiny perfume ad was totally harmless, then why remove the page?

You mean it's funny because only Sony fans are attacking it and arguing how desperate it is.

When this gets brought up time and time again and is used to show how childish MS are, you'll STILL bot understand.

Because they like to have fun? Isn't that what gaming is about?

It's not fun when you screw over a partner though is it... I mean they spend millions themselves in doing these kind deals, they would not be impressed if Sony started doing this... I mean crap they couldnt even say if TR is timed exclusive, you know it's for Square to say not us (though they signed a deal).. to me its just lots of salt that they didnt sign Destiny and they are trying their best to try and find anyway to claw that mess back.. So to me it's malicious...

So I guess it depends on integrity... people can claim is Sony fans getting upset, but if you remove that layer of consolemanship... it's about more than that. By all means joke with your competitors but dont be a douche with something you do yourselves and expect other people to adhere to. If they really cared about Destiny they should have signed the deal with Activision, rather than not. They lost out, live with it.

I expect PS4 sales gap to be big and Destiny gap to be big if this is what they have to do to promote the XBO.

FUN?? Youa re NAive if you think they got there matketing tema to come up with this for fun. This is a clear attempt to try to curcumvent the marketing deal, deals they do more then anyone, to try and get a bit of destiny x1 press...Only MS does this type of childish nonsense. They didnt do it for fun.

Actually, no they haven't broken any laws or any contracts. The exclusive marketing contract was between Sony and Activision. Microsoft never agreed to NOT have Destiny adverts, it was just agreed that Activision wouldn't allow them to advertise the game for Xbox. Which with this marketing tactic they technically didn't, no more than any retailer that has the Xbox version of the game on their website does anyway. Ya know, since that's what it linked to and all. Why would perfume makers care? Sure there is one perfume called Destiny already, but IF (that's a very big if) they had copyrighted the Destiny name then Activision would be in trouble for using it as well.

That may be the case... (bolded).. but as they *DO* sign such contracts themselves and they Value those types of agreements, then surely they should be mature enough to follow the rules of them right...

It's embarressing to do such a thing as a company.... nothing wrong with having a joke, but not at the expense of your partners..lol.
