My first over-the-table paying job was at Wendy's when I was 18. I quit after two weeks. I'm now working as a nurse making good money. I feel bad for them. Working fast food sucks ass.

Agree with you there, although I don't think they deserve to be paid 15 bucks an hour. I for one will never work at a fast food job again.

$15 an hour? That is pretty modest, why not $50 an hour?

By the way, the future is here. I ****ing love science!!! Check it out, it's a robot that can build 360 burgers and hour and it doesn't put boogers in your food! http://www.businessinsider.com/momentum-machines-burger-robot-2014-8

So much BS. minimun wage means you just get enough to live by yourself, not a family, no luxuries. Just to get by. If you want something else, work hard to get it. Dont go to flip burguers all day and expect a good life to drop down to your hands

Theres no way anyone deserves 15/hr for flipping burguers.

That is not true, Even with Minimum Wage you won't have enough to get by ESCPECIALLY if you get into an Accident.

You won't even have enough to live by yourself. Again prices have been rising and the Wages haven't. You escpecially won't be able to get by if you have some Medical issue.

Some people do work hard, but working hard IS not enough. Have you forgot that all the Prices are getting Higher?

Well, yeah. If we start to get in these "what if" scenarios.... Minimum wage jobs are meant to win some extra money, not depend upon it. Its the minimum you need to survive. They dont consider medical issues, 'cause nobody does. My job doesnt consider it. And working hard is vital, what are these people doing to get better? Looking for more opportunities? Getting more education? No, theyre demanding more money for a job that doesnt need experience or skill, that any kid in highschool could get.... Come on

YOU NEED MEDICINE to survive. Who says the person flipping Burgers isn't working hard?

Also again many FACTORS equate to why people work Minimum Wage jobs, Lack of any REAL jobs, Getting more Education Requires MORE MONEY. Minimum Wage jobs can barely afford Living Expenses how do you expect people can afford to go to Community College at the least?

Prices have been RISING everywhere including College and Book expenses. You expect people are able to go to College without getting a Huge Amount of Debt or asking Funds from the Government for Education, whilst trying to balance it out with a Full Time job?

Dude come on, dont bring this BS to people you dont know. MY dad comes from a family that had no money, hehad to bust his ass to get a good educstion. In mexico we dont have nearly as many aids as the USA (not even close) he had to buy his career books in english (they were cheaper) and a spanish -english dictionary cause he speaks no english whatsoever. He had to work from nothing (when i was a kid sometimes we didnt have enough money to have dinner) to get what we have now; hes a doctor btw, just like one of his 2 brothers (the other one is a marine captain ) the only difference is that they had to bleed to get a better life. Now, whats th excuse? Money, they had none. Oportunities? You have to look for them.

I will tell you that I have no sympathy for them. The jobs don't take any skills. That is one reason why you don't get paid a lot. Another is that these jobs were never meant to be for people with families. It used to be teenagers that took the brunt of these jobs. I don't know how much that has changed but its ridiculous to consider giving a skill less job a raise. I get paid just over 15 dollars with 14 years in the navy. How much do these people deserve compared to my experience and skills? They deserve the same??? I know a lot of people that do harder work for less than 15 dollars than flipping burgers! I know people start out working in shipyards getting 10 dollars an hour in the heat all day long with actual skills.

Lastly, if they get paid more than some of these people are going to lose their jobs and the prices of the food will go up. You can't have it both ways. Its not about having sympathy. It's logic. It's economics.

Sorry it's not logic.
You get Benefits working in the Government THEY DON'T. If in services you get Food, Free Healthcare and many things for free.

Also NOT EVERYBODY is fit for the Navy.

Also Minimum Wage use to be able to Provide for a family, that's a fact. If anything the MINIMUM wage should be enough for them to get an Education, Provide a Decent Place to stay, Provide for MEDICAL expenses. And it does NONE OF those things correctly.

Yeah and if anything MINIMUM wage should be enough to buy a car, a house, a dog, and unicorn to ride to work every day.  Reality sucks!

These jobs are not meant or for making a living for a family. Minimum wage is designed to for a single person to be able to make it by. And it's enough to do that. If you have 3 kids, don't work a minimum wage job.

Some people don't have a choice, a job is a job. If anything we have a Lack of Jobs. Minimum Wage isn't even enough for a single peson to make it by, you don't get healthcare if you get into an accident or if the Ambulance comes to get you for whatever reason you're in a few thousand dollar debt. The price of Education, and Living Expenses is rising. This is not including people who have Mental illnesses which makes it harder for them to get by, I know a few people who have this problem and it's SICKENING what they have to go through to pay off there enourmous debts because of the crappy American healthcare system.

You can't make it by on your own with just Minimum Wage. You need somebody helping you or Subsidizing you if you want to make it by Alone.

Well, this isn't true. You have enough for shelter, food, and clothing. Luxuries like television, smartphones, video games, etc. are exactly that. You don't deserve to have them for existing.

Price of education is rising, but there's thousands of scholarships opportunities for people without money. My wife was paid by the government to go to university. Living expenses are also rising, but so is minimum wage. In high cost of living states, minimum wage is higher than $10!

What shocks me are the ones complaining while saying they worked at one fast food establishment for years.

Never thought to look for a different job? Don't tell me you couldn't find something after 5 years. Restaurants hire servers and bussers all the time both of those pay more than fast food, albeit it requires much more stressful work.

I know because I have worked both and being a server sucks.

Could be area, Availability, many factors could be the reason.
Maybe lack of English or understanding of a certain Language. idk.

anyways.

I live on stupidly expensive Long Island, and yes I think the minimum wage should increase, but $15/hour is absurd. Should be $10 or so.

No reason a structural mechanic building aircraft parts at my job should only make $3/hour more than a McDonald's fry cook. You would also be shocked at how many people walk out of McDonald's with androids and/or iPhones. Maybe they should cut that $100/month bill out. They don't need facebook.

I see this all the time at my local 7-11s too. Workers there who make like $8-9/hour with $200+ phones and $80-$100 months phone bills. Then they complain about not making enough.

Many people who have Iphones and also Androids (on minimum wage) only tend to HAVE the phone with no Service, they rely on Free the Internet mc donalds or starbucks has.

They could of potentially have it also as a Present. But who knows a lot of them are TEENS too so you can probably tell whose paying for that phone. But if you're truly Independent or let's say kicked out of the house etc... Minimum Wage jobs don't cut it anymore. I do agree that they're should be balance but I feel the Majority are getting underpaid.

Minimum Wage Laws were made for people to have a Decent Living maybe 15 Dollars isn't asking too much. Maybe the Repairmen and the Navy Seals should also be paid MUCH more.

Whenever I visit Japan, the consistently high-quality of customer service always leaves me impressed. It's probably the best in the world. And it's no coincidence that most Japanese considered service industry jobs to be just as 'real' as any other occupation. After all, a society made up of nothing but doctors and lawyers would be a complete bust. We need restaurant workers, janitors, etc. These jobs are an important part of any well-rounded society.

Wrong, I don't know where you live but Minimum wages do not pay enouigh for Shelter letalone Medical Expenses if you have any, some barely have enough for Food. Video Games and a T.V. are an afterthought, Friends and Relatives may have Given it to them who knows.

Not everybody is able to get a Scholarship, getting a Scholarship is harder than before due to Rising Costs. Again the government is ALSO subsidizing you, so technically it's not enough on a Minimum Wage job.

Wrong. I don't get benefits. I don't work for the government. If they want an education than they need to look for tuition assistance and do what others do. This has been going on for what 30 years or more. I don't know how long but I long time and someone like you NOW thinks they deserve more money? Paying more just screws things for everyone. If the minimum wage were to go up than prices for everything goes up because that money needs to be paid somehow.

Im not in the navy anymore and a stupid excuse is being not fit when they can make themselves so. Besides, the standards are not that high compared to what I believe they should be.

Mr Joe who you would say needs his money for his "education" just lost his job because they had to cut corners to make up for lost revenue or perhaps they need to close completely because they are not getting paid enough to substain business. Medical expenses? Geez. Its a FAST FOOD JOB! It's not meant for a career. Nobody is forcing these jobs on anyone.
