Forums - Gaming - Why are games so boring now-a-days?

The internets ruined your attention span, 5 minutes of boring gameplay is enough to make you stop playing.

You sound like me in that I only used to use Playstation consoles for Fighting games. The only PS2 game I had which was not a fighting game was Maximo.

Nowadays the most popular games are shooters (first or third person), and open world games.

Creating games has become so expensive that less games are created per year, and the developers have to take less risks with creativity to make sure the game will be successful. And also, because of the great power of the consoles the temptation of making like a movie exists.

What kinds of games do you like? I pretty much only play platformers, fighting games, turn based strategy and turn based rpgs.

I will play anything as long as it's not a sports game, or FPS.  I like fighting games most of all, though.  I don't only use playstation consoles for figting games, I only use playstation consoles period.  I remember playing BlazBlue Calamity Trigger years ago on 360....  So much unintentional jumping and failure to do moves, combos, etc.  Same thing with MK9 and Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown.  Fighting games just aren't playable on 360, unless you have an arcade stick, which I don't use anyway.

I have enough trouble doing hypers in Marvel Vs. Capcom on PS3, that game has never been forgiving with controls.  At least it's easier in MvC2.  I cannot imagine how difficult it would be to pull of certain combos on 360, on that pad with my thumb sliding all over the place and sometimes off the disc entirely.

My thing with RPG games is that they just take too much time to play.  I've never actually finished any of them that I've ever played in my life.  I either get stuck, or just give up.  Oh, wait, no... I take that back, I beat Xenosaga I, on PS2.  That's the only one, though.  I really don't care if it's turn based, or something closer to Kingdom hearts, or anything in between.  An RPG is an RPG to me.

do you know GGPO? it is an internet website http://ggpo.net/ people use to play old fighting games from the 90s and early 2000s against other people online.

and it has no input lag at all

Dude, I was Administrator of God Weapon's Best of the Best Server from Kaillera, before there was a such thing as GGPO.  The only reason why I didn't switch was because GGPO didn't support 4P MvC online.  Kaillera was/is used by MAME, epsxe, Gens, Project 64, and so many other emulators.  Been in that scene and done that for years.

Sadly, the owner of God Weapon decided to axe the thing several years ago.  People moved to another server, and the admin there didn't give me administrative duties again, because I didn't bend the rules for him at GW.  So, I quit Kaillera altogether.  Couldn't go back as a regular user again and not have the ability to ban/mute, etc.

@Gilgamesh

No, Beyond has some pretty boring scenes in the middle of the game.  Still beat it 11 times.

And again, I'm just going to take a break from it for a while.  Obviously I'm bored with it anyway.  And no, retro games don't help.  I have a genesis with 47 games.  I'm not interested in playing those either.

Games are not boring nowadays, YOU are bored of recent games, which is an entirely different matter.

That's pretty much what I wanted to say.. The thread could have ended with this first reply..

Haha!

Dude... Please...

You most likely play too many games, which is why you do not find anything to be fresh and in turn it adds to your sense of boredom.

Give it a rest for a while and come back after a year or so. That or play some Minecraft with friends.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Minecraft doesn't look remotely appealing to me.  As I've said before, I'm just going to stop for a while.  I don't find it to be enjoyable

Then your choice is best. Just take a long break. It is likely for the best.

I take long breaks once in a while myself, sometimes for a week or even a month.

I've had weeks when I didn't play..  Obviously it's not good enough.  I'm going to go for longer, actually.
