Forums - Sony - People Are Complaining About The Anime Schoolgirl Sony Used To Demo Its VR Headset

Okay. I'll let it slide this time. :)

To be honest though, console games aside, I think there is a valid concern about the over-sexualization of women in media in general.

There is a very interesting article I stumbled upon that provided an excerpt of a book written by what I understood to be a prominent feminist (who's dead now) called Andrea Dworkin. It was mostly on pornography but it also deals with how women are used on ads (non-pornographic). If I can just find it...

It's here.

It's been a long time since I read it but when I did it kind of opened my eyes about the topic. And I was never one to be pro-feminist, as a matter of  fact I used to mostly resent the feminist sentiment. I also have consumed a large amount of pornography in my life. But I am seeing things differently now.

It's a non issue for most women, always has been, most of us are perfectly fine with just playing the games we like and skipping the games we dont, just like any based human being.

Mens bodies are used to sell product, and on porn (guess what, theres porn for women too), just as womens bodies are used to sell prodct, people are acting like the hunky guy drinking soda advert was never a thing

Sure it may not be balanced but nothing ever is, i wouldn't expect balance if a man wanted to learn something inherantly feminine, and neither would they.

The majority of women are perfectly fine with the way things are, the issue we have is that the vocal minority are not, and its the vocal minorities that get all the attention - just like when a female developer / feminist gets hate messages from one or two people, people generalize and treat it like most males are like that.

It's bullshit, and it's getting to the point where some men are pandering to the vocal minority and telling people what they can and cannot think, or say.

My view on it is this, Yes i have boobs, if a guy across the room is staring at them, IDGAF, if he tries to grope me, hes stepping over a line and getting a broken nose, but the point here is that theres a line for him to cross in order for that to happen, the current brand of feminism, and the men that pander to it, are pushing that line closer and closer to the point where the guy is going to get a broken nose for simply not asking for permission to look in my direction.

The last thing I need, or want, is a guy telling me how the average woman feels about this topic, when using the same mindset as the vocal minority.

People complain about lots of things, the key is, ignore them. They have a choice to buy or not buy things they object to. Passing on a video game you object to for whatever reason, isn't illegal. People should try it more often.

The other problem is that a lot of these people only judge things at the surface. They don't realize that the core and innards are drastically different from the outside. The fact that a lot of them are complaining about a game that they haven't even tried out for a single millisecond is silly.

people who complaint probably prefer a male character to interact with...

OK so this is a tad off topic but am I the only one who finds it weird that she is being called an anime girl. I mean its not TLoU realism or anything but it definitely goes for a more realistic style then it does anime

I also think you're being rude in general in the way you are alluding to things about people who hold the position I've held ITT.

Good.

I don't understand what is so wrong with me disagreeing with his opinion.

Just because generalizing an entire country as anime fans can be dismissed, doesn't mean its excusable.

You're kind of demonizing him though, that's what I dislike. He told you he was tongue in cheek, and there's also a way to understand what someone is trying to say.

When he said "Japan has to stop with this fixation", why would you understand him meaning everyone in Japan, it's just not reasonable to me. It seems pedantic and done to antagonize your interlocutor.

@Nickles. Thanks for the insider info.

So what your telling me is disagreeing with someones opinion on the basis that in my opinion he was wrong is percieved by you as demonizing him?

In your opinion, I am antagonizing him and that when he says Japan he means Anime Fans, DESPITE THE FACT THAT ANIME FANS ARE NOT EXCLUSIVE TO JAPAN. You want to say my opinion is unreasonable, but your is?

It seems to me that you're just antagonizing me.

If you think I'm angry enough to warrant Calming Down, maybe you need to reevaluate and calm down. Even if it was tongue n cheek as you claim, you said "Japan" not Anime watcher, Japan is not a country of solely Anime Fans.

FYI, I do watch a lot of anime, and their are lots of tropes in it which annoy me, but its important to recognize that my opinion shouldn't dictate what others enjoy, not to mention erroneously generalizing all of Japan as Anime Watchers.

LOL, you are killing me.  Are you trying to tell me that Japan as a country does not watch Anime.  Anyway, you are getting very high on a horse for absolutly no reason.  You are right, this never should have lasted pass my saying its an Opinion but I guess you have to have the last word ;)

I don't understand this. Why ignore them? They may have a point that you aren't seeing.

And though the content is not illegal, to them it is objectionable and they are protesting against it with words.

You're basically asking people to become deaf ears. How is that supposed to be a productive suggestion?

I don't understand how you can question human understanding of Quantum Mechanics, while posting on the internet, using devices that require an understanding of Quantum Mechanics to even work.  So, I guess the lesson here is, understanding isn't a prerequisite of living on this planet.

Yet you make it a point to say that my attitude is bad in another thread.

Why should I listen to you at all?

Who's asking you to listen to me? and you do have a bad attidude, in every convosation you join, at the very least my attitude is dependant upon topic.

This particuar one is about "oh god the poor women, you can stare at a fully dressed 3d character, my god thing of the poor women!"

As a woman I think it's bullshit.
