Forums - Sales - PS3 won this week in NA, congrats!

Xbox 360's $50 dollar price cut, should remove the Playstation 3's Blu-Ray advantage for the time being, no?

^^Not if Sony drops the PS3 to US$299.

Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it

VGChartz has corrected their's every month too. There is nothing wrong with correcting data to make it right. I have a lot of respect for VGChartz and think they are more forthright than the NPD, but major businesses subscribe to NPD numbers for a lot of money for a reason, because they are the most accurate gauge of sales numbers.

If Wal-Mart is not giving their numbers to NPD, I highly doubt they are giving them to VGChartz.

But how many times does NPD correct their numbers?

Will nobody answer me?

You would have to be a paying company to know.

It's fair to think that Vgchartz numbers might be more accurate then NPD's public numbers because of this.

It's fair to think they aren't either. Hard to say, i don't know anyone who bothers to actually add up the NPD months 1 month at a time because most people know it's useless. If they did it could be compared vs shipping numbers.

That's why people pay for NPD's numbers after all... because the free public monthly numbers are fairly useless. (Except for publicity.)

It gets the ratio's about right... but i wouldn't call it accurate.

What people don't get however is that there isn't a "more accurate" method.  Just a "more likely to be accurate" method.

You are basically using what data you get through your formula to make an educated "throw" on the dart board, you end up getting within the right amount but it's ALWAYS off a bit, hence why Vgchartz has actually beat NPD the last couple times they were compared vs shipping numbers.

Doesn't mean VGchartz is more accurate, just means they were the last two times... to find out who is actually more accurate you would need an insane amount of data sets.

Either way your formula is way more important then how much Data you have... unless you have like 99-100% of stores reporting.

Seriously, I don't understand this whole movement to discredit the NPD numbers. They are the best you are going to get. I am sorry they "might" have undertracked the Wii for one month. I am sorry they "might" have overtracked the PS3 at some point.

 The paid for numbers.

The "stand alone" free numbers however... you just get them... then when they make an adjustment a week later, you don't know them.

Why are you here? All you contribute is the same nonsense everyday....

It's simple math. 60%NPD > VGC's <10%

and you're silly for not thinking people would question it if it was someone else. Ive seen multiple times "I wonder what IOI is going to do about this"

Dude, do you know anything about statistics like that? Once you get passed a pretty minimal number, how many stores you have doesn't improve your accuracy, it's your formula that really improves your accuracy. All it does is occasionally prevent you from being WAY off due to confounding data.

Often times having too much data can actually hurt you because you change you end up changing your formula.

This makes no sense. Because they were wrong in December, they were wrong in January, and will be again in February, and VGC is never wrong... makes no sense.

VERY good for PS3

I believe they were wrong the last two times that numbers were compared vs shipping numbers.

You may remember because Ioi said he wasn't going to blindly adjust for NPD anymore because they've been found to be horribly wrong.

Then everyone bitched and complained... so he did again... and the last shipping numbers proved them wrong again.

It's possible Vgchartz formula may actually be better then NPDs. Or atleast VGchartz formula + Adjusting vs just NPD's formula, without adjusting (aka public numbers).

Not that i'm bemoaning them for not adjusting the numbers in the public, i mean they have to charge for something... but it's stupid to know they don't and think it's silly that they can't be less accurate. (in public numbers.)

Anyone who has had sufficent training in statistics should be able to tell you the same.

Either way, i'd guess Ps3's are just selling right now. GDC seemed very positive for them, blu-ray finally getting the decisive deathblow on HD-DVD. There are reasons a spike could be possible.

ITS NOT FAIR LEO-J

is MISSING all of this!!!

The beginning of the end for x360. PS3 deserves the top spot, a so much better console.

Lost my faith in VGChartz. Too many stupid and ignorant Americans, even as moderators.

It's a shame, really. "The Boss" should do something radical about this Americanization, but it seems hardly feasible, so my days here are numbered.
