It's four years after the original. That's not early at all, IMO. I still don't see why people are bitchin' so hard about this.

It's not a new generation. And the next Handheld will come out in barley 2 years.

My point it should of been done for the XL. That would of been more reasonable. Not at the end of the 3DS cycle.

No it will only fragment the audience and few developers will use the extra power and extra buttons. I'm actually quite pissed at Nintendo for this. I've had mine for barely a year and it's suddenly gained these improvements out of no where now so i'm gonna miss out on some games potentially. I don't care about Xenoblade Chronicles (a 'new' 3ds only game) but it's not right to do this to your loyal customers.

This isn't meant to be a successor to the 3ds so why split the base like that?

it isnt soon...it s been three years and half since 3ds and two years 3dsxl wake up spurge, it s a successor to 3ds/xl not to series(like dslite--> dsi) and apparently is the last successor,as you can see it retains the 3ds name!

As long as the "new" exclusives are limited to ports of Wii or other games already available on past Nintendo consoles it doesn't bother me too much. But if Nintendo releases new 1st/2nd party games that require this "new" 3DS, I'm not going to be too happy.

I shouldn't have to buy 2 of the same handheld in one generation to play their games.

If Nintendo runs a discount where you can trade your old 3DS (XL) / 2DS and receive a discount on the "new" system, then it'd be a lot more reasonable. I'll pay some to "upgrade" but I don't want to buy a new system.

So soon? Judging from 3DS hardware sales, this seems overdue to me.
