Forums - Nintendo - Can Smash DLC be done right? If so, how?

Well, cant convince you unfortunately, hope it comes true but that is some veryhigh expectations. Imo its equivalent to wanting 60-80 new mega's for OmegaRuby/AlphaSapphire

How so? There weren't 60-80 new megas in XY. There were barely 60-80 new Pokemon. I didn't expect any new megas. It's a remake.

Oh C'mon Spemanig!!! I didn't mean that pokemon statement directly at you, i meant it as a metaphor!

This honestly sounds more than a bit demanding to me. You're asking for basically just over a dollar per character (completely ignoring the stages and alt skins), and less than that if you get the bundle. New fighters in Smash Bros are in no way comparable to new characters in Mario Kart; movesets have to be designed, balanced, tested, probably re-balanced, etc. This is made even more difficult with DLC characters, because only the character being released can be adjusted, as opposed to pre-release balancing where the entire cast can be adjusted as necessary.

Something like $2 a character, and maybe $8 for a bundle of 5 characters, would be reasonable.

Sakurai would never not have a complete roster at launch of the final WiiU version.

Also Nintendo is gearing up to support Smash U on the competitive scene unlike brawl and have built it very much to be close to Melee where possible. I can't see them throwing in character DLC to this, only costumes if anything or tertiary gamemodes.

It absolutely is demanding. I expect a lot of value for my dollar. $8 for 5 characters doesn't come close.

How many competitive fighters have DLC characters again? Right.

How many of them are Nintendo products made by Sakurai? Right.

Welp, I'm sorry for you then. You're going to have a real hard time buying many things in life outside of Sam's Club.

If that leak roster is the full thing then there are 49 characters. I don't see them adding to many more. Maybe like 5 more is as far as I can see them going but who knows but them. I also see them having a fair price for the content. I do hope if they do have more characters they are cross buy. I am not buying dlc on both systems.

be free or non existing.

Mario Kart has no DLC it has Add on content (Nintendo knows that DLC is crappier than Add ons xD)

But having smash DLC that costs money will fuck up the balance of the game. Brawl had the wall of unlockables. If smash gets DLC that could have been unlockables instead then thats it for me no more smash.
