Forums - Sales - Will the PS4 top the Wii U in Japan this week?

Many western games aren't popular in Japan but it might give a little push over there.

No.

I doubt they even sold that many more software units than whatever Hyrule will pull in its second week. They will definitely be below YW2.

The Last of us Sold the worst in Japan out of all the other regions. It sold 3 times more in the rest of the world, not including Europe and NA than it did in Japan. The Last of Us isn't a big title at all in Japan. Same with Diablo III though that one is even worse. Not even 100k copies of Diablo III were sold in Japan. These two titles will barley make a dent.

Sony tgs should bring IP that push ps4 sales forward

Microsoft skipping TGS and Sony not really trying is a clear indication of how they about Japan. The console market there is nearing obsoletion. Why champion sales where your highest console sells 18k on a holiday week? As for the topic at hand, the PS4 most likely won't but the PS4 baseline will rise/level out as big titles start to release starting with Destiny.

You can't blame them for not trying that hard. Right now, the typical AAA HD game cost around $30-$40M. The japs aren't just wiling to spend that much making a game.

I don't see how would TLOU and Diablo III help the PS4 in Japan of all places..

No, they have to compete against Hyrule Warriors

No did The last of us even boost ps3 sale in Japan?

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

So then does anything really matter in Japan anymore? Anymore than it does in let's say...Germany for instance.

Is or should our love affair with Japanese game sales come to an end? It seems that Japan and China are more into portability than anything else anyways. I hear.

Japan is important for game development, sound, game design and trends but as a source of weekly sales, especially during the off months (which is 83% of the time, outside November and December) its a setting sun, especially for consoles.  Im sure the German market for consoles have declined but not to the effect of Japan and upstart markets like China will be the new hot spots as it will be the wild west there.  Itll be exciting to see a new group of people embrace console buying.
