Forums - Sales - Why Microsoft will not win even In US & UK

i didnt thought this way.
u r right.

Agree Microsoft won't win in US this time. A lot of 360 users already bought a PS4. Also the strategy surrounding the release was really bad. Sony fixed the online disavantages they had versus the 360. And mostly, Microsoft should have done what sony did, buy a lot of studios so you can have several different amazing exclusives.

I've been watching these forums for about a year now and these threads always amuse me. It's usually just fanboys/fangirls making statements and then calling other people out for being fanboys. Half the forum has predicted sales figures in their sigs but no-one ever seems to agree and despite this forum being filled with members more well read and familiar with the games industry you're almost always wrong.

Rarely does anyone posting know much about sales outside of USA, people never seem to post anything about economics from outside the industry, no-one really seems to consider the late buyers or casual market properly, people ignore the trend bubbles that happen. In effect, no-one really seems to know what they're talking about, or if they do they make no effort to prove that they do.

As for the consoles. I tend to agree with the OP (who posted reasons for his/her thinking for a change). I don't think the Xbox One has much of a chance now, but it's still "anyones game" till after this holiday period. With clever marketing they could outsell PS4 this Christmas and win the generation but I doubt it. The thing is anything can happen. The PSN being hacked again was a rumour, but if it had happened that kind of bad press at just the wrong time could screw over everything for Sony. Then there's Nintendo to think about, the Wii U may have started slow, glacier slow, but it's consistently outselling the Xbox One now and with a different approach to gaming makes sense for people on PC, who already own a PS4/XBO, or who own a PS3/360 and want something new that actually has something to play on it.

On the internet it's easy to get caught in an echo chamber. People keep saying the same thing online so it sounds like popular opinion but it's often not. Remember Xbox 360 sold the LEAST of last generation. The Xbox 360 LOST! But because the internet is heavily biased towards people who are online (obviously), and the English speaking world, particularly USA; it appears as though it was the console of choice last gen, and that's just not true. PSP was a "failure" if the internet is to be believed yet it's sold more than the PS3 and 360, and sold more than twice what the 3DS has currently sold. The internet has a skewed perspective and has tantrums when you tell it that it's wrong.

Personally I think this holiday period will be disappointing all round. PS4 will sell less than expected. Wii U will sell better than the internet expects but only because the internet hates Nintendo and either ignores or mocks it, however it'll still not meet PS4 sales and will be lower than Nintendo hopes. Xbox One will sell like a freshly dropped turd because gamers are capricious and have apparently decided it's crap despite PS4/XBO being practically identical. PS3 will sell far more than people expect because it's cheap and the games are dirt cheap now.

The reason I'd say this is that people have become disenfranchised, sales for consumer electronics, cinema tickets, DVDs/blu-ray, music, video games and cable/pay per view services are dropping across-the-board. People are getting bored very quickly, and this economy is built upon fashionable obsolescence; this is pretty much Apple's entire business model. No-one needs a new iPhone or iPad, they get them because they're fashionable and people impulse buy. This works for phones because you're tied into a contract for two years, then 18-20 months in they offer you an upgrade with a new phone and new contract just early enough to trap you with them for yet another two years. The current consoles sold massively day one but had a steep drop off in sales, this means it was largely impulse buys and hype. There's likely going to be a scary amount of used PS4/XBO sales because people bought them last holiday because of the hype and nothings come out on them that wasn't mediocre or on the last gen. I think that as the people who are easily swayed already have their new consoles, without clear next gen experiences everything will stuggle to sell. Wider economic trends indicate a time of austerity ahead and the video games industry still hasn't recovered from the 2008 recession. EA, Square Enix, Sony, Nintendo, Activision, hell even GameStop have had their stock-prices fall and none have recovered. The only one who recovered was Microsoft, and that's because it's Microsoft; and it's not as though the Xbox division has access to all that money anyway.

So yeah. Who will "win" this gen? Honestly hard to say. I'd say Nintendo are most secure as there's every chance Sony could go bankrupt if anything bad happens. The Wii U sales will also likely improve and stay steady over the coming years as people pick it as their second console for the exclusives. PS4 will probably win out simply because it's in the lead now and that makes a difference for developers (it's why Xbox 360 got better multiplats), and public opinion is for the moment on it's side. Xbox One I expect to take third place again as it has nothing to offer. Guessing sales numbers though I think is an exercise in futility, there's just too many variables.

Sorry, you are wrong.

Xbox One is only 670k units behind in US despite all the bad press, negative PR, arrogant and mixed messages, $100 more price point.

Despite this, many games have still sold more on xbox one than ps4 in US with much higher attach rate, like call of duty ghosts and battlefield 4.

With price parity now at $399, upcoming holiday bundles, Halo MCC, and next year Halo 5, Xbox will win US and UK.

Now, I can agree that xbox one will not win anywhere close to the margin that xbox 360 spanked ps3 (by 17 million) but in the end, Xbox will win US and UK while PS4 wins globally.

This site never fails to underestimate Halo. Sony has nothing even close to it that will appeal to the US and UK market who love shooters. Halo is a true system seller and by the time holiday 2015 comes along and beyond, MS will start to gear up even more with potential price cuts, even more bundles and maybe gears of war collection.

finally a reasonable person.

I've been telling this to people forever, even had a thread, but it got closed for no valid reasons.

Titanfall on X1 in the US sold more than any PS4 game.

"XBOX ONE GAMES SELL VERY WELL CONFIRMED" No one is arguing against this point.

Despite the success of Titanfall, the PS4 won NPD.

To suddenly assume that one exclusive and a collection will suddenly catapult the Xbox One's sales through the roof surpassing the PS4, without even a thought or consideration of the games or bundles coming to PS4, is incredibly irrational.

Was a good post till this load of utter BS.  PS4 will sale out how is that less then expected ? Non really hate ninty most just dont care at all which in contrast to their fanboys which everyone hates might falsely be viewed as hate towards the company it self.  If you actually owned an x1 and PS4 youd know they are vastly differnt, which is hilarious since you were bitching about people not knowing much.

They're really not different. They're more similar than the PS3/360 ever where and those two felt like practically the same system. Both have at best a handfull of exclusives none of which where overly impressive. Unless you really loved InFamous SS or [insert XBO exclusive here when one exists], there's nothing about them that really matters.

How exactly is me saying I think everything will underperform "utter BS". I gave my reasons, the sales for 2014 for every system have been at an all time low (yes even the PS4), people are buying less media and consumer electonics in general, no console has had an impressive or extensive library released for it or even announced, and the consoles had a steep drop off in sales at the end of last year indicating a popularity based largely in hype. If this passes for "utter BS", what are you expecting? Hell, I didn't even give estimates, just vague impressions... so, go on then, if you're so smart, what are your predictions?

You really havent a clue, maybe check the release dates and see how much impressive content is coming in the next 4 months before posting.

Old gen had a steep drop of when new gen started, you dont say.

I already predicted PS4 sale out duh.

Do you always make a point of being so insultingly arrogant with new members?

You also didn't read my post properly, "Old gen had a steep drop of when new gen started, you dont say", no, I don't say. What I said was the current gen sold well day one and then had a steep drop off in sales. This is easily verifiable, you're on vgchartz now, go and look. PS4 was referred to on multiple sites as the fastest selling console ever, but this is only true if you stop counting after 48 hours. The PS2 and Wii both had better sales in the first week and first month. This is a steep drop in sales. In future don't be so bloody arrogant, it only makes you look like an arsehole.

So, impressive content in the next 4 months you say? Such as? I see nothing impressive. There are a few games that look fun sure but nothing impressive, and most of it is on last gen anyway.

Destiny, Middle Earth: Shadow Of Mordor, Forza Horizon 2, Alien: Isolation, The Evil Within, Call Of Duty: Advance Warfare, Dragon Age: Inquisition, and Far Cry 4 are all coming to last gen consoles. So they're an impressive reason to keep my PS3 and 360 connected but they hardly inspire me to pick up a new console.

Sleeping Dogs, GTA 5, and Halo: Master Chief Collection are, like The Last Of Us and Tomb Raider, just remakes of games I either already have or didn't want the first time around.

Hyrule Warriors is just reskinned Dynasty Warriors 8. Assassin's Creed Unity is just yet another Assassin's Creed game only prettier. Lords Of The Fallen is basically just Dark Souls again. Bayonetta 2 is yet another sequel and isn't much different to God Of War, Devil May Cry etc. Captain Toad is a cute puzzle game but hardly a killer app. Sonic Boom looks shit, but then it's a 3D Sonic game so what are we expecting really? And lastly Sunset Overdrive looked really good but all the critics at GamesCom said it plays badly so I'm not expecting much from that any more.

That's pretty much every release worth mentioning on any of the three current consoles. PS4 has literally nothing exclusive coming out at all. XBO has Sunset Overdrive and nothing else. Wii U has Bayonetta 2, Hyrule Warriors, Sonic Boom and Captain Toad so it at least has stuff but nothing overly special. Now PS4/XBO both have Lords Of The Fallen and AC Unity which are at least only on the new gen, so that's something; but even then I find AC games overly scripted and was never much impressed by them, and LOTF is very similar in style to Dark Souls which is an aquired taste. Regardless, I can always just play AC4 Black Flag or Dark Souls for those kind of experiences without needing a whole new console.

I've yet to see a single game that's impressed me. Nothing that makes me say, "they couldn't do this on PS3". So no there isn't an impressive line up over the next four months there's just a load of remakes, sequels, cross gen games, and indie bullshit and you just want to either justify spending your money, or flame the new person on the forum; likely both. Why don't you consider being a civil human being before posting in future, or is that just too taxing for you?

Right now PS4 isn't dominating, so it entirely depends on the next 5 - 17 months and what both MS and Sony do. Nobody can say for sure who will win US.

Neither party will dominate in US (but definite PS4 domination globally). My estimates (from 1 year earlier) indicate PS4's US market share will be around 55-65% by the end of the generation. Well, this range includes the scenario where XB1 stayed at $500 but now that they released a Kinectless bundle, I'd assume XB1!s market will be between 40-45% (still within the bracket estimated a year earlier).

So a split like 40-45 versus 50-55 between XB1 and PS4 is nothing to sneeze but again it will be the PS4 who has the upper hand this time.

Xbox will have 55-60% market share in US by the time this gen ends.

Halo 5 will go a long way in making sure that happens. It will be a blockbuster because Halo is truly one of the biggest franchises in all of gaming.

Halo 5, Halo MCC, and future Halos plus gears of war will help win the NA market

The Halo series has been in a steady decline.  Halo is not dead but this a new generation.  It's not the new IP anymore.  Halo MCC is just a bunch of games people have already played.  The hardcore will buy but the casual gamer is not going to invest all of their time MCC with all the shooters already out.  Halo and Gears is getting a little old.  It's going to be like COD at this rate.
