Have an awesome Extra Credits video:

(video)

We shouldn't be asking for "less games", we should be asking for better ways to find the games we are interested in.

Good Extra Credits.  Asking for less options has never made much sense to me.  The problem is that our content portals were not designed for this.  That, or they simply do a poor job at it.  Whomever gets it right first will see more digital sales as a result.

How can there be too many games? I wish there are even more, so I can choose. I'll still buy a maximum of 12 games per year either way.
Luckily, there's plenty of information on the internet, so I can make the best possible decision which 12 to buy.

Also, I was really anti-indie for a while, but after seeing some announcements, particularly at Gamescom the other day, I have made a full 180.

There's only so much time in a day. It would be a dream,if I had time for 12 games a year. It would take me the entire gen to get around to finishing those games.

So sorry, I thought I had little time. I play about 1 hour every night, so 30 hours is plenty to finish a game.

Last gen I was too enthusiastic, bought a lot of games on sales, and ended up giving away a bunch of them unopened.

So now, since the beginning of this gen, I make a list and just purchase one game per month. I am determined to not have a backlog.

I guess we'll see how that worked out by 2018.

I'm all for indies, but there seems to be an oversaturation of them. this can actually hurt the market in my opinion. If these small companies can't afford some great marketing, then no one will buy the game. Since there's an over abundance of indie companies, companies have to try that much harder to make there game stand out in the crowd. It's just a never ending viscuious cycle. I love and apperciate the retro feel of most of these indie games, but there's a lot of younger gamers, that can't see the beauty in that. I'm also curious to know how these indie games do sales wise. I personally think most of them flop, but it's a tough hard market to begin with.

Since a lot of them are crowd funded I imagine they don't need to make huge returns to keep the dev alive, which will most likely use crowd funding for their next game as well.

I'd say some, but not a lot. you do make a great point though. I did'nt think of the crowd funding games.

Just today Sword art Online hollow fragment released on the Vita in europe. The game wasnt even in the latest software list while 2 new indie titles received pomp and circustance in the PS blog eu yesterday and were right there today. Not a single mention for Sword art online. I had to manually search for it and buy it.

I have yet to buy a single indie game aswell (i plan to get a couple in the future when they release), but it is obvious that Sony is pushing them incredibly hard over everything else and consumers might start to resent them for it. There is more to gaming than just indies. Theirs arent the only games that need exposure.

changing indie's exposure from 0% to maybe 30% means they only push indies now?   how quickly one forgets destiny, driveclub, farcry 4, bloodborne, littleBigPlanet, uncharted 4, batman AK, the order 1886, dead island 2, diablo 3, mortal kombat, GTA V, hellblade, middle earth, metal gear sold V, silent hills, until dawn,..  all were pushed at this years E3/gamescom.

AAA still get's massively more promotion per game than any indie.  it's not sony's fault the big publishers can only put out 1 AAA title per year anymore.

I wish I could do the buy one a month thing.  I typically have about the same amount of free/play time as you do and also get sucked into the sales.  Particularly the more recent PSN sales... damn.

You’re right actually. Now that I think of all the different platforms indies are on these day's with dozens being released each week, it is the minority that are crowd funded.

there are a lot but that is part of what i love about them.   there are games in there designed to targeting a niche market that i happen to love.   AAA play it soo safe i'm finding most to be too generic and boring to keep my attention for long.

the swapper may only go on to sell a few 10s of thousands of units but i am loving this game to death right now.   indies are, imo, hitting a perfect balance right now of being ambition enough to have good production values while niche enough to target unique audiences that may not be big enought to sell 1M no matter how amazing the game may be.

AAA is still an important part of the game ecosystem but the "too many" indie games is a good thing.  you shouldn't have the time to play every game that comes out.  you should want to play every game that comes out.  diversity in games means diversity in gamers which improves the marketplace overall.  not every project will be successful,.. that is not unique to gaming.  most new businesses fail.  the bad one should fail.

What's an indie?

I'm tired of them too, however there are a few which are very good.
