Forums - Nintendo - The Legend of Zelda: Nintendo are afraid to ad voices ?

I'd always prefer for the games to stay silent like they are, because of tradition and because the music is the important part of the sound in Zelda, but if they did add VA I wouldn't mind much.

Link himself must always stay silent though. Nintendo would just create an endless sh*tstorm because everyone has a different voice in their head for Link and the VA will never live up to everyone's expectation. Maybe they're a bit afraid of that.

Fuck Nintendo being afraid, I am afraid if they add voices! Zelda + Voice always reminds me of the CDI Zelda days or heck, just look at what happened when they added a Voice to Samus in Metroid the Other M! I mean fuck, I wanted her to stop talking throughout the game loll. Granted it was a third party developer but still, its a concept that is very risky and Nintendo should only do it when their console is selling high and not low

There is no need for voices. There is no need risking another Metroid Other M, or worse, CDi.

Keep Link silent and give some voices to other people.

"I think it will be the HDS"-Me in regards to Nintendo's next handheld.

As long as Link remains a silent avatar/protagonist, then I don't mind them adding voices to the other characters, at least on the console versions.

Prime 3 had voice acting before Other M, and while it wasn't the greatest it was tolerable. From what I've heard, the japanese voice-acting for Other M was decent.

I wouldn't mind voice-acting in hylian (preferably, but they can do English if it is too much) during cutscenes and reading outside of cutscenes. Link mustn't talk, he is a silent protagonist. I'd rather Nintendo not waste the production costs on this (which they need if they want to do it right), and that is why I prefer that they don't do full voice-acting.

THIS!

And frankly, I don't care if they do give Link a voice or not, but at this stage in development, there is no reason why especially given how much more cinematic the various Zelda games have gotten to not have voice work.

The mute/no (or just very few) voices thing works well for some games like Mario, Donkey Kong and even Kirby but Legend of Zelda needs to step into present when it comes to voice work. I don't want a overly cinematic Legend of Zelda game where 50% of it is cutscenes but there is no real reason to not have them if you are going to have cinemas where the player has to read text for dialogue spoken by the characters.

We know what happened last time someone added voices to Link...

Played Prime 3, there was very little VA, and what was there was nothing special, neither adding nor detracting from the game. Zelda has much more dialogue, and many more places for the VA to go horribly wrong.
