Forums - Nintendo - Should nintendo pay Ubisoft and Capcom for ports?

ShShould nintendo have paid Ubisoft to port The Crew and AC: Rogue and Capcom for RE: remake

Yes all three 61 28.64%

No to all three 103 48.36%

Only RE 23 10.80%

Only AC: Rogue 4 1.88%

Only The Crew 2 0.94%

Yes RE and AC:Rogue 13 6.10%

Yes RE and The Crew 2 0.94%

Yes AC:Rogue and The Crew 5 2.35%

Total:213

There is no reason to pay if they will stay multiplat. Those games do not sell well on Wii U, thats why there is no ports to Wii U... if Nintendo pay them to port games... gamers still choose to play them on Xbox/PS. And later, everybody will want little bribe...

Do you will buy Wii U because AC Rogue, The Crew or RE if you have those games on X and PS???

When comforting a grammar Nazi, I always say softly, “There, their, they’re.” ;)

Thanks! I re-read my post several times to make sure I didd't make any mistakes.

On topic. I wonder how much those games would have to sell to break even

I re-read my posts also, and after posting I often edit them again as I see new errors. Tip: I try not to use DIDN'T or THEY'RE. Instead I write DID NOT and THEY ARE. It is easier to write and easier to understand.

On topic:

Ubisoft says that it costs under $1.3 million to port to Wii U.

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2012-07-23-ubisoft-says-wii-u-ports-costing-under-USD1-3-million

Now you have to figure out how much of the retail price that Ubisoft gets. If they get $13 then they have to sell 100 000 copies.

Some sales figures for Wii U ported games (vgchartz database)

Assassin's Creed III - 260 000

COD BLOP2 - 240 000

Batman AC - 220 000

Honestly no, because anyway people mostly buy Nintendo consoles to play Nintendo games so having those games won't really make a difference.

Nintendo should buy a stake in Capcom. It would be a hedge against the MH series ever moving back to being a sony exclusive. It would mean the kiss of death for vita.

Also a MH exclusive for Wii U would be kinda nice :)

Neither of those games will make any difference to Nintendo's sales.

Even if they do that (and annoy their shareholders even more in the process), no one will buy those game regardless so it would be entirely lost

Absolutely. But only if Nintendo have some influence on the game itself so the games will have the Nintendo-touch and they should also do the publishing. People intend to buy the game more if Nintendo are involved...

I think they should. Why not? It's not like holding a grudge and pretending third parties doesn't exist will improve the Wii U's situation. Even if it is unfair, I think Nintendo should play this game, so to speak, unless it costs way too much and the money would be better spent elsewhere.

I do not think that Nintendo really needs third party. I will not do any deeper analysis of the all-time-top-list of console games (vgchartz). http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/

  • The top 15 most sold games are from Nintendo. Half of them from the time that they "ruled the world" - the Wii-era and the other half from their handheld empire.
  • From 15th to 30th place there is only one third party, GTA, that for several reasons probably never will be on a Nintendo console.
  • From 30th to 50th place there is the other big third party, COD, that has been on Nintendo platforms but without much success. There is also Sims for PC
  • From 50th to 80th place, there is Just Dance that had the best times on Wii. Also PC games as WoW and Myst. Here are two N64 games, MK and Goldeneye. Here is a big one for X360: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
  • From 80th to 120th place, about 8 - 6 million copies, at last there are the games we normally consider third party (excluding the big-hitters GTA & COD). Here are FIFA, NFS, Tekken, Battlefield, Crash, Metal Gear, Here we find the one that Nintendo let slip away, Final Fantasy. Here we find games from the least successful Nintendo console so far, GC, with Smash Bros, MK:DD and Mario Sunshine.
  • From 120th to 200 place, about 6 - 5 million copies, are third parties like Dragon Quest, Assassin's Creed, Monster Hunter, Lego, Madden, MoH, RE, Tony Hawk, Guitar Hero, Batman, Driver. Here is also Sonic that pretty much has migrated from Sega consoles to Nintendo.
  • From 200th to 400th place, about 5 - 3 million copies, there are a lot: Lord of the Rings, Spiderman, PES, L4D, Harry Potter, Tomb Raider, Borderlands, Star Wars, Splinter Cell, Rayman, Max Payne.
Well I will stop there: the third parties that Nintendo Wii U lacks from the top 400 are essentially GTA, FInal Fantasy, Tomb Raider, Borderlands, Max Payne. What Nintendo may lose from now on are FIFA, Madden, Assassin's Creed, COD, Resident Evil. These games have never been big sellers on Nintendo systems (the reasons for this is constantly discussed on this forum) except for RE.
There are probably a lot I have missed doing this analysis, feel free to comment.
EDIT: Minecraft should be here also, that is almost as big loss for Nintendo as losing Final Fantasy.
Fun Fact: when PS2 was on its peak Madden (combined) did not sell more than Mario Sunshine on a Nintendo console that was about to be obliterated.

Resident evil was already remade on wii wasnt it? Now its getting remade again? Its too much man unless somebody makes a decent remake of goldeneye and shadowman
