Forums - Gaming - Ninja Theory Explains Why Hellblade Is First to Consoles on PS4; More Games in Development

No, that can't be true. Sony paid them to make it first for PS4. It can't be that they want to focus on the most popular console first

What i don't get is from where this "focus" necessity came from. All i heard until some months ago is how it would be easy to port a game between PS4/XBONE/PC.

While it does increase the cost, even if it is easy to port, by don't having parity they waste their marketing efforts.

Given, this game is not going to have that much divulgation anyway.

Easy, yes, but easy enough that 12 people could make 3 versions in ~2 years? Doubtful.

Exclusivity might give it more exposure.

The way I see it, it's kind of a safe bet to release a game "exclusively" on ps4. You got easily the biggest userbase and people who will hype the game because it's "exclusive" (see Heavely Sword vs Enslaved), so they get free promo. Then they can port it to xb1 and get some extra sales.

12 people? This cant be a normal practice for studios, can it? Can anyone who is familiar with development explain this? I would imagine if concurrent development was taking place across similar architecture IE: One and PS4 if its built simultaneously its not a net-net increase meaning you may only need an addition 6 people instead of 12 to concurrently develop for two platforms.

I cant imagine this is the most efficient way to develop when eventually you know its coming to Xbox One. Not to mention as another user said the marketing aspect.

It's not going to be like a full-on AAA game. It is an indie title in some sense which is still targeting top of the line visuals and quality.

Translation: Sony is allowing us to profit off of their fanbase so we can afford to put the game on Microsofts console which has half their installed base and PC as well.

I do agree.

I've argued developers often get into exclusives or timed exclusive deals because they need the money.

Games are pricey to make nowadays so I don't begrudge developers for getting into these deals.

in my opinion it actually is more efficient from a developing point of view, because the porting team can only twiddle their thumbs when the main team is stuck at some points or is redoing stuff that didn't work and so on (and that happens all the time)

for marketing purposes it's less efficient that is correct, but as this is an "independent" project it means they will have very limited marketing efforts anyway and hope it gains popularity mainly through word of mouth

fixed

If its good, I'll check it out. The only Ninja Theory game that I really enjoyed was Enslaved.

you realize this game is being made by a team of twelve right? they were always going to release on one platform, sony didnt need to pay shit, Ninja Theory just looked at sales, and decided which platform to make this one.

Yeah, that's their story. I don't necessarily believe it.

We've been mislead too often.
