Forums - Gaming - Notch decides to get snarky with Wii U fans

It's a pointless game with awkward controls and interfaces. And yes, the graphics are utter shit. Given how much money he made from this, don't you think it's time to actually make a decent looking game out of it?

I've played it once with friends and I was mostly bored the whole time.

Did you only play on a console?

To be honest I've always found Notch to be a very unlikable person, a few years ago and now.

http://www.minecraftforum.net/news/7645-notch-gives-3-million-to-mojang-employees

25 employees, $3M dollars.

On average he just decided to give each employee an extra $120,000 on top of what they already made that year. This was all from his dividends. It was HIS money earned as a Mojang stockholder, but he wanted to show his thanks to the team for helping make Mojang what it is.

Pretty likeable guy if you ask me.

Would you dislike your boss if he/she handed you an extra $120,000 for doing your job?

Social recognition is something entirely different. I could ask any of my friends who Notch is, and they would know, but only one of my friends know who Shigeru Miyamoto is, and he's a hardcore Nintendo fan. Shigeru is a celebrity in the gaming community, Notch is a celebrity in mainstream pop-culture.

In five years Minecraft may very well have outsold Wii Sports, despite how little you want that to happen.

1. You guys have strange covos with friends. "Hey best bud! Do you know who Shiggy Miyamoto is? (Friend): "Hell no bro! Now Beer me!" ( You) "What about notch bro? You know Notch? Huh? You know him? Huh..huh..huh?" ( Friend) "Dude!!!! He is the co creator of one of the most imaginable games of our time dude! How could I and most of your closest friends not know this guy? Now BEER me or I am going to sucker punch you Bro!"

2. None of my friends know who any game people are. No one in the Military that I knew...knew of any game devs. Regular people do not know this stuff. They go to the store becuase they hear through word of mouth a game is fun or they saw it on tv. Then they buy it. Commercials do not say...From Legendary developer Notch, we have Minecraft! ON sale now at Target and Walmart, and that shit place Kmart. Buy today!

3. Regular people are not reading over gaming forums daily to learn as much as they can about ....not to be rude or knock something that i enjoy as well...but something that is meaningless. Gaming beyond mobile games does not matter in life and even though it is a fast growing industry, most would rather know what is going on in the world, what actors are doing, or follow their favorite sports stars than follow who made the Snow men in Banjo Kazooie. Or who made the latest Zelda soundtrack. They just want to play the game, and move on.

But I am glad I saw a glimse into conversations that some have with their friends!

1. Ouch, that stung. Way to go, trying to insult me. I was expecting more from you to be honest. You know, i TOTALLY said that I talked a lot about Notch with my friends. *Sarcasm gone* now, if you read my post then you'ld see I said "I could have asked my friends who Notch is" key word for you there being could. This was cheap of you, really.

Now here's a shocker for you: I play minecraft occasionly. I used to do it a lot more a few years ago. And sometimes we happened to mention Notch, heck, sometimes "Notch" appears on the frickin title screen.

2. We haven't had a single commercial about minecraft in Norway, yet everyone here knows what it is. Actually, as far as I know there have hardly been any commercials anywhere about minecraft. It has, as you mention, been spread through word of mouth.

3. Minecraft is somewhat different. It's a social phenomenon, that has been spread through the world, and is now pop-culture. "Everyone" plays minecraft, (infact minecraft has outsold every single entry in a miyamoto made IP, besides Wii Sports. Currently 54 million, and counting.). Saying that more people know who Shigeru Miyamoto is than know who Notch is, is just straight out wrong. I know you wish that was not the case, but it is.

Justin Bieber is currently more well known than Julius Caesar. In 2000 years of now, if humanity still exists, Julius Caesar will still be known and Bieber forgotten by almost everyone.

That's an analogy for you. ;)

The fact that Minecraft scores 93 on Metacritic is ridiculous.

My 5-year old daughter plays this game and loves it like crazy. Has no issue moving around in dual analog and easily browsing the menus and building stuff.

The controls and interface are stupidly easy. Even my 8-year old nephew has created some stellar things in that game, also on console.

PS3. I'm not paying for that game to play on my PC lol.

For how crappy the game looks there were even framerate drops and screen tears. Not to mention the horrible soundtrack.

Well the console version is way worse than the PC version. It only costs like 20 bucks, and it can run on a toaster (although performance varies). What uses power is the fact that each world has to be procedurally generated, and you can do change the world however you want.

Well,

1) Wii U/Nintendo fans are used to criticism, and it's light considering. They've taken worse.
2) They are "just" Wii U/Nintendo fans anyway.
3) It's just a joke.

No biggie.

lol the hate is strong in this thread

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

It's funny how so many Nintendo fans give so much hate to a guy who actually purchased a Wii U, bought some games and is looking forward to another game

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

If this guy had made this statement a year ago it wouldn't have been trolling... it would have been the sad truth.

His remark has little bearing on my opinion of him, however, as I already didn't like him. I saw him on Craig Ferguson last year and thought he was an arrogant ass.
