Forums - Sony - Questions about tearaway

I was very much interested in it. But I dont own vita. So I wasnt able to play it. Now I can play it thanks to sony. Cant wait.

How is the game? I have seen the reviews. But I want to hear it from fellow gamers who have played it.

Is it basically platformer? Or open world? (lol me)

It's not Openworld. It's a platformer, incorporating gimmicks pretty much (albeit a good one)

The paper plane thing made me want to double dip for it, looked so awesome!

Tearaway was interesting to me when it was vita exclusive, it was also the exclusive interesting thing about the vita, so I was resigned to not getting a chance to playing it. But now I'm pretty damn happy it's coming to PS4.

How does it compare to Nintendo platformers? As my past experience of platformers on the PS1 and 2 have been DIRE.

It's a very charming platformer that uses Vita's features very well. Hell, I would probably call it more of an adventure than a platformer. The platforming bits are not challenging for the most part and they are used so you can explore. It's a bit on the short side (6-7 hours I'd say) but its visuals are excellent and the story is fun. Music is really good, memorable, charming.

The One and Only

Here's my take, and keep in mind this is far out if line with the majority of critics.

Tearaway is a visually beautiful game with impressive art direction and and a great sense of style. Unlike the majority of Vita games it uses the Vita nose-to-tail, so to speak. The touchscreen, the rear touchpad, the gyro sensors, and the microphone are all used creatively and in a way that immerses the player, who, by the way, is able to customize this adventure to his or her liking by way of paper craft.

That's the good. Now the bad. It's not much fun to play. The game is far too easy. The platform sections, which are few and far between, are simple and straightforward, and, with infinite lives and checkpoints every 20 feet, there is no cost to failure. The same holds true for the arena sections, where waves of disposable enemies appear. They're dispatched with little effort.

Apart from that the gameplay in general is underdeveloped. There are some interesting sections of the game, slides and piggyback riding most notably. But they're too short and too simple. Platforming is woefully underdeveloped. As mentioned earlier, it's foolproof. And, while the rear touchpad and touchscreen functionality makes Tearaway unique, it serves to make the platforming areas uncomfortable. It's no fun doing finger gymnastics while trying to cross a bottomless pit. The awkward camera doesn't help either.

In the end Tearaway is an interesting, artistic game that celebrates individuality, but also one that's too easy, too simple, and too in love with it's own paper craft universe.

Thanks everyone for their feedback.

i'd say it probably will compare well to captian toad tresure tracker.

the game is slow paced platforming with a focus on charm and unique interactions/puzzles that aren't challenging but still fun.  i don't know what else i can say expect that i platinumed this on vita and almost assureadly will rebuy this on ps4.  looks like they changed the game up enough to call it a 1.5 sequel imo.
