Forums - Gaming - Microsoft has lost potential PC consumers

As PC gaming is growing, consoles need more reasons, ie more exclusives to win over the PC gamers these days. I think PS4 is doing a fantastic job, because if you want to play a Sony published game, you will need to buy their console and rarely there are games that do go multiplatform like Joe Danger, literally the only one I can find.

But Microsoft is doing a shitty job with that. Games like Dead Rising 3 and Ryse Son of Rome and now Rise of the Tomb Raider which is confirmed to be a timed exclusive, what is the point if most of the AAA titles come to PC in the end? Microsoft has completely lost the trust of most gamers, including me who owns a XBO and now fully regrets it. I'm very disappointed, I could have spent that $400+ on upgrading my PC for once and waited a few years for price drops and that is what I should have done. I don't think this will stop here. Microsofts plan and plan since the 360 was to just pay for the game to not come to PlayStation but PC is open. Some people might have thought that Microsoft would change but it doesn't seem like it. And because of this, PS4s sale will even increase more because these PC gamers who have not chosen a current gen console yet will pick PS4.

Yup.  PC + Playstation gets you the most games.  Always been like this.

Unlike Sony, Microsoft also profits from PC gamers in a lot of indirect ways. So it's not as harmful as you might think.

Well, until these games start getting ported to Linux...which is starting to happen at a pretty rapid pace thanks to Valve.

Add SteamOS to that.

Sony also pays publishers not to make games for Xbox. They pay for timed exclusives and exclusives. They did it on PS2 with GTA and they probably did it on PS1 to combat Nintendo. Paying developers for exclusives was going on before MS entered the console gaming realm.

I don't think MS cares to publish 3rd party games on PC. It seems to me they just don't want some games on Sony platforms.

I didn't say MS was getting money for every Xbox game that comes to PC (i.e. games they didn't publish). I'm saying they publish some Xbox games for PC. Ultimately, Xbox benefits from getting games not on Sony consoles and Windows continues its PC gaming dominance. Win win!

I still love how people use something 2 generations ago as a rebuttal. They did it with GTA? LMAO you must be joking right? They didn't do that with GTA, they just didn't release GTA on Xbox, but GTA did still come to Xbox.

LMAOOOOOOOOOOO, Windows continues its PC gaming dominace. Oh you are so funny, I laughed so hard when I read that. Sure whatever you say, somehow Steam winning = Windows winning. Sigh....people these days.

And AGAIN holy shit, you don't get it do you? PC gaming is growing and these PC gamers need reasons, ie exclusives to buy consoles. So tell me, if all these exclusives are coming to PC why should they buy a Xbox? It is actually hurting Xbox because these PC gamers who aren't stupid can tell Microsoft doesn't understand the word exclusive and they will choose PS4 over Xbox because there are more real exclusives on PS4 than XBO. Tell me, how many Microsoft published games on the 360 eventually came to the PC? TONS. How many Sony published PS3 games came to PC? 1, Joe Danger, a indie game. Sony knows what the word exclusive means, Microsoft doesn't.

I mean holy crap, if you actually read what I said, this conversation would have avoided.

Sony is buying exclusives and timed exclusives now. They've always done it, people just hate when MS does it.

The success of Steam has absolutely benefited Windows. Even MS supports Steam.

If PC gaming is growing then that's great for Windows. MS should continue to put games on PC to deter people from moving to other operating systems.

Sony has published numerous games for PC. They are generally online games. They didn't keep those on consoles because they want money from PC gamers (Windows gamers inparticular).

Personally, I like that MS allows games on PC. I'd like to see them continue putting Xbox games on PC.

Lmao, keep telling yourself Steam Winning = Windows Winning. This is one of thee most delusional comments I keep seeing.

Ok let me rephrase this, have you seen any Sony Computer Entertainment, not Sony Online Entertainment(that one that makes PC games) release their games to PC? No, only 1 that I know of and if they do they aren't AAA titles on the level of Gears, Halo, and Fable.

Of course you want MS to keep publishing games on PC, sounds like a defense mechanism from the fact that XBO has barely any real exclusives available.

Think for a moment. Steam has gotten people interested in PC gaming and they did it on Windows. Hence, Steam helped revive PC gaming on Windows. Valve knows that and they're making their own OS. But they simply aren't going to get the same kind of support Windows has.

Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Online Entertainment are part of Sony. Hence, Sony puts games on PC. Those games could stay on Playstation as exclusives, but Sony wants PC money as well.

I actually own MS published games on Xbox and PC. I have the Halo games, Gears of War, Dust, Mark of the Ninja, Fable 1, Fable 3, etc. I'm a consumer and I like having their products on Xbox and PC. The Xbox brand can thrive even with games on PC.
