Oh, OK! I didn't see the "Read more, including honourable mentions here" before making the post!

If I had to write such a list, there would be way more than 5 places...
But maybe the top 5 would be something like this:
5- Pokemon
4- Persona
3- Metroid
2- Smash Bros
1- The Legend of Zelda

Games I wish was on Playstation (Because I don't own an Xbox
)
#5 Pokemon (a true open world home console one)
#4 3D Super Marios
#3 Metroid Prime
#2 Halo
#1 The Legend of Zelda

The only franchise that isn't on my platform of choice that I'd really love on it would be Legend of Zelda, oh and maybe Gears, other than that I'm good.
I could change a couple of the choices and rename this list "Franchises I wish were on WiiU".
Seriously, I don't see much of a point.
And I'm pretty sure Metroid came out after Zelda...
I understand this list, and it goes both ways (all ways) really.
I kind of wish that there would be only two major platforms instead of 3, as more gamers would have access to more of the available franchises. The companies would still make the games, but it would be far easier to deal with two platforms instead of three. So Nintendo (by far the most 1st party and family friendly library) and Sony or Microsoft. As much as I think the PS4 is hands-down far and away the better of the two compared to XB1, as far as a platform I think they're somewhat comparable in terms of what's available due to the huge number of 3rd party games. Sony has superior 1st party entries imho, so a world where it was PS4+WiiU would be awesome.
What are a list of non-MS owned studios that make exclusive Xbox titles? IIRC that would be most of the 'exclusive' titles.
For this same reason, I *HATE* moneyhatted third party exclusives, for any platform. It's just a way to bribe companies to keep games AWAY from more gamers.
In most gens you could get almost all the top games by having one or two systems :
NES basically had it all that gen, though SMS was fun as an extra system if you wanted some extra stuff
SNES and Genesis made a superb combo. I loved the TG16, but let's be honest, that library sucked unless you were in the Japanese market with PCE stuff (the vast majority of which never got out of Japan, translated/etc).
PS1 + N64 meant you had pretty much the whole shebang for 5th gen. Sure Saturn technically existed, but a ton of great games never left Japan, Sega let it die early. The N64 didn't have all that many great titles honestly either, but the ones that they DID have were freaking amazing. SM64, the Zeldas, and even though I never cared for it (already long since spoiled by PC FPS far superior) : Goldeneye. PS1 goes without saying, MASSIVE library with literally hundreds of great to amazing titles.
PS2 + Xbox owned Gen 6. Sure you could have just a PS2 and be more than fine, but the OG Xbox had better multiplats (from what was available), and some really unique exclusive stuff. It was far from typical dudebro FPS tripe, it was full of great stuff. It deserved better honestly, though I didn't like the introduction of having to pay subscriptions to play online (again, spoiled by PC where my online games worked flawlessly for FREE). Dreamcast again an honorable mention, but the library was pathetic even compared to Xbox, and PS2's library is godlike. Gamecube .. ehh. I don't think that was Nintendo's best work (I'm biased against that ridiculously tiny controller, I'm 6'4" and it was just horrible to play a GC until I got a PS2 controller adapter).
PS3 + 360 = ridiculously awesome Gen7, though the Wii had enough amazing stuff to make it worthwhile at a bargain price. This is where the trouble started though, unless you had all three, you definitely missed a substantial number of legendary 9/10 and 10/10 games. Bah.
Current gen = repeat of Gen7, only with Sony using a god-mode cheat.
