A gaming only handheld has been gone for years, the last one I can think of would be a GBC but even that could have a camera attached to it, GBA had mp3 and movie playback via game cart expansions and everything since then has come in leaps and bounds in terms of Native movie playback, Internet browsing, online game stores on the device, music playing software, skype calls, mobile text messaging on the vita even.
All that's left to be added really to "gaming" handhelds is the addition of proper phonecall (not skype calls) on what is being refered to as a gaming handheld and the only remaining difference is where their key focus is, gaming devices start with controls and a screen for gaming, small mobile device touch screens will never rival that for more than angry birds and endless runners.

Nintendo will keep making handhelds, but I think Sony pretty said "fuck it" with the Vita! :-/

Not dying, but almost surely shrinking, unless the new users brought by developing countries economy growth outnumber the users lost in the existing markets.
If this growth slows down due to international crises, to start growing again later, we could see the portable market shrink down to a minimum and after bounce up again.

Laytos and Ace Attorneys it is nothing new on iOS.
Been saying it for a while.
I think Sony should bow out, but Nintendo will have atleast one more. May be more entwined with their next console
Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League
Vita is dead.
3DS is doing very good!
Nintendo will not give up!

The original trilogy I am aware of being on iOS, however porting Dual Destinies so soon after it came out was just an odd choice, why not localize GK2 if you obviously had the funds to bring Dual Destinies to iOS -.- I will forever be bitter about this, so no use in trying to convince me otherwise.

"I think it will be the HDS"-Me in regards to Nintendo's next handheld.
only for sony and everyone else.
als long as nintendows big ips dont come to mobile, they will have good reasons to sell dedicated hardware
