Forums - Gaming Discussion - A cut to 299 might not help X1 much

Microsoft is still supporting consoles because maybe, just maybe, they know something we all dont know. All I know is that if their main competitor (Sony) goes out of business and Xbox becomes the default go to console for third party games then Microsoft's Xbox division will print money like crazy. Microsoft is in it for the long haul.

Imagine PS was backed by some one with actuall $, it be a new golden age of gaming.

Embarrassing?LOL

Dude considereing previous gens, Xbox One is doing just fine.

Go doom someone else. Your doom is to high profile for me. Also it's very unrealistic, you have got Pachter beat.

I guess 6-1 7-1 sales in major markets is a ok for you, getting doubled multiple months in your home market is awesome.

Ai, k.

A word of advice. Never underestimate Microsoft. I did it before and ate MAJOR crow.

It doesn't really work like that. SEGA were arguably at their finest, up against the ropes. I find companies that have a reason to pull all the stops out, tend to produce better stuff.

-As far as I can tell, yes that takes all things Xbox into account.

-This is the best I can find for PS profit:

It looks bad at first, but if you add up the numbers in just this timespan it is clear that Sony has still profited far more than they lost (Like 50% more).  Also keep in mind that his chart does not include 2011 or 2012 which were the most profitable years for the PS3 with PS+ and so they likely wiped out most of those PS3 losses.  Then throw in the crazy financial success of the PS4 for another year and you can see that they probably have doubled their total investments.  Far better than Xbox.

lol, that does look a lot better than XBOX, but there's still some hope. Xbox has been profitable for the past few years, and, with the exception of this year, they should be profitable for the forseeable future. If they can keep it up for the next decade, they might get into the black overall. If they sell Xbox now they might never recoup their losses. How much is the brand worth, anyway?

That's a pretty grand expectation that isn't always achieved. Again, I'm sure Sony had similar expectations with PS3 and Vita. Nintendo had greater expectations for Wii U and 3DS as well. If the basic strategy doesn't work, you make a new one or give up.

Sony made a new strategy with PS3 and worked out okay, albeit a failure compared to PS2.

I'm glad MS isn't content where X1 is right now. That's why they've become competitive and have boosted X1 sales significantly. They didn't lose billions in the past because of marketing, it was the hardware losing money. The OG Xbox was too expensive to produce and they repaired many broken 360s. Much of PS3's losses came from producing expensive hardware and significant price cuts.

They don't need to take the console market to find success. You seem to have the mind set that only first place is success, that's wrong.

Were not talking vita or PS3, this thread is about X1.  I understand defending X1 on its own merits is hard but do try and stay on topic.  Im sure you can do better then your typical But but but vita or PS3.   It really is tire some from you.

For MS its 1st or nothing, they are not a corp that is content with anything but 1st in case you havent noticed.  Hell for Sony its 1st or failure, PS3 was a hard pill to swollow for them.  Even Ninty is just like that they just have handleds to fall back on when their console is failing.  None in any business are content with anything but 1st, 2nd 3rd means you could be doing better having higher revenue and more profit.  Its shareholders whining why arent we doing better what are we doing to be #1.

Obviously I'm giving examples of other platforms that were failure at launch that found success. PS3 and Xbox 360 are examples why shouldn't give up quickly.

For you its 1st or nothing for MS, not MS. They support plenty without being 1st. Facts kill your arguments. Maybe its 1st or nothing for Sony given all the markets they left.

MS's response to shareholders has been forget about the Xbox. More importantly, Xbox losses have been shrinking. The 360 recouped its losses, X1 may do the same.

As long as X1 develops a good size userbase, it'll be okay.

If the X1 sells 30-40 million in the US and nothing else around the world, it'll still be okay. That platform will still get great support.

$350 is moving units, MS needs to replenish retailers with bundles, especially SO white X1.
A $299 H5 Xbox1 slim bundle would cause a black hole in the US.

350 + a game so thats more like 295

you do realize it costs nowhere close to 60bucks to MS to give away a free game right???

You do realize he is talking about what the customer pays at the end and what he gets instead of what it costs to Microsoft to produce/market, right? (??)
