For comparison, last gen any one of the three main consoles would have shipped 1.5m+ on the back of a huge blockuster game releasing.

Were you sad when that happened with Wii and X360? (Actually wasnt it worse as X360 had a year + a couple months head start and wii surpassed it very quickly?) Shame :P

Wii U sales were extremely weak before Mario Kart 8 was released, so doubling the baseline wasn't exactly saying much. Of course sales for the Wii U after Mario Kart 8 would look impressive when compared to previous months lackluster sales. It is all about perspective.

These people don't seem to understand the difference between units shipped vs units sold to consumers. Using shipped numbers is useless.
