PS4 is great for exclusives not just Multi-plats.....it has more exclusives this year, sony was smart to spread them out and not slot them against all the third parties in the fall. Exclusives are not as important as some want to believe when it comes to hardware sales.....third party still drives the industry.

Old remakes are not going to move much if any hardware. Titanfall, price cut didn't a remake sure won't. Destiny alone will do more for ps4 then MCC will for x1.

PS4 is domminanting PS3 was not.
PS4 costs 399 and its cheapest competitior is 300 and other 400, PS4 cost 500/600 and you could have gotten a 360 and Wii for that much.
PS4 is king of multiplats, they sucked and were missing early in PS3 life.  
PS3 was getting killed in NA and holding on in Europe, now PS4 is wining NA and murdering the competition in Europe.  

There is little correlation between PS3 and PS4 other then they both are Playstation.

Umm ps4 is not ps3..it will do and is doing vastly bigger numbers then ps3. PS4 is not the ps3 it will do much bigger numbers.

Well baseing this of the recent shipments of last 1/4 3.5 mil ps3/ps4s i gotta put the current shipments right now over 10 mil something like 10.2 or 10.3 that would make the sell through RIGHT NOW about 9.5 to be modest. That being said i see the PS4 to be sitting at a health 10 mil sold through in the coming weeks. tac on another 1mil for Sept due to Destiny and your looking at 11 mil going into Oct . Oct i see about 800 -900 maybe even 1 mil ramping up for the holiday. Nov will be 2 mil min maybe more and i can see 2.5- 3 mill in Dec. There are alot of people waiting to buy the PS4 and the 2014 holiday season will give many a reason to do so. 

Prediction  16.5mil low end - 18.5 high end

I think any one saying it will be less than 16 mil are not using the latest shipment info and are useing VGchartz current serverly undertracked information.

its about the MoM % incease. it doent matter what console. even the gooldy wii in its best year only managed a ~200% october to november (2008)

and ~300% november to december (2009)

the normal MoM for the wii was ~ 150% october to november and ~200% november to december (and wii always was a holiday beast)

and now all u guys shitting at me, because i predict a solid 100% october to november and a solid 100% for november to december for the ps4 in its first year!

im to lazy. otherwise i would do the real % and resulting average for every console.

We get it..the ps4 will get a much bigger increase because demand is much higher for ps4 then it was ps3 in the US, where sales go up a lot in the holiday season. Look at 360's increase which is more popular in the US.......ps3 is not the ps4 so comparisons to it are foolish.

Based on Sony's numbers Vgchartz has ps4 undertracked and it is already near 9.5 million....We have rest of JUly august then sales will go up starting september......

Yeah wow, Japan's going to make the difference here... in Nov+Dec 2008 the PS3 only sold about 300k units in Japan, even if we assume that the PS4 will only sell about 100k in those months in Japan this year, then that's a difference that will probably easy be made up by the black friday difference in the US alone.

The better appeal in the US is massively more important in the holidays then it is in the rest of the year. To give an example, let's look at 2008 again, this is what the PS3 and 360 had sold in 2008 at the end of October:

PS3: 6.8m

360: 5.9m

and where did both systems end up for 2008?

PS3: 10.2m

360: 10.8m

What happened? Mainly the holidays in the US, the 360 was so much more popular in the US that it managed to still overtake the PS3 for the year thanks to the holidays.

Yearly Total Sales / Yearly Pre-holiday Sales  is about 2. 

actually I grabbed numbers for the last few years and it ranged from about 1.7 to 2.6 for systems selling at least 3M in a year.

ps4 sold 4.4M in 2013.  so far in 2014 (not including 1 week of july and 4 weeks of august (and probably vgcz undertracking)) ps4 has sold 4.4M

the math says that ps4 will land between 12.3M and 16.2M depending on the holiday ratio.

if we assume ps4 sales the same in the next 5 weeks as it did in the last 5 weeks then the math says ps4 will land between 13.4M and 17.7M at the end of 2014.

15M at the end of 2014 and 17M by april 2015 sounds about right to me.  but to answer the OP,.. yes it is possible to cross 17M this year.
