Quake 3 had cross play between Dreamcast and PC. It even worked a few years ago, not sure abut the situation today.

EDIT: holy crap, it still works! Today's publishers are too 'modern' for something like that, lol.

About PS and XB cross play: no, they want that you and all your friends need their newest console to play together, especially MS. Sony allowed cross play.
