Because Xbox doesnt have nearly as many territories where it has a history of success like Playstation does.

Europe is and always has been Sonyland, PS1 was the first hugely successful console in Europe and they have been the preferred choice ever since. Xbox has little no chance being successful in Japan with the first 2 consoles averaging about one million each while Playstation has always sold 10m+ in Japan. Also in developing countries Playstation has always been the brand of choice.

Basically Xbox only has America where it can possibly stage a comeback against PS4 but even if it does win America, it likely wont be able to offset the difference in Europe+Japan+Rest of World

None of these really mattered last time around when the PS3 shambled out of the gate. X360 managed to make it's presence felt in Europe even after the first Xbox didn't set the world on fire. And even just based on the 360's US and European sales, it's practically tied to what the PS3 is at the moment, even with the PS3's supposed global brand recognition.

These things aren't set in stone. Average customers aren't so blinded by brand loyalty, they just buy whatever their friends say they should. By the way, I've never owned any of the Xbox consoles, I've always gamed on either Playstation or Nintendo consoles. I just hate premature arrogant statements like "it can't" and "it won't". You can't predict the future accurately. Maybe there's a Naughty Dog-style success story in the X1's future.

While I agree nothing is set in stone and anything can happen. It really is not arrogant or premature to say it can't or won't catch up. Because that is currently reality and is true. Jut like it is true that teh 360 made it's presence felt in US and Europe it is also true that the XB brand DOES NOT have the worldwide brand recognition that Sony does. Does that mean the XB1 will stop selling or sell badly no? It just means it won't catch up to the PS4 in WORLDWIDE sales which is fine as well. And MS had a naughty dog success story it was Gears of War which was an amazing series on 360.

Also all of those things that zorgmentioned did matter when Sony shambled out of the gate  that's the ONLY reason it is still relevant now. Also while you are basing your tie on correct data. That data also came with a 1yr head start and an 8mil console lead if I am not mistaken. That is not the case this time around so if the best they could do was "tie" with the PS3 witha  year head start, being cheaper and an 8mil console lead then that says a lot about how things will most likely turn out now. And you are right average consumers are not blinded by brand loyalty they will indeed buy what their friends say or what is currently most popular(especially in the US). And right now that is without a doubt the PS4 so they also have that in their favor.Sony/PS4 would have to dos omething EXTREMELY stupid in order for things to turn against them right now. Like increse the console price by $100 or bring DRM into their system ot stop selling period.

So there is no "arrogance" in saying things like the XB1 can't or won't catch up to the PS4 going by currect data, brands etc it is just reality. Not saying the Xb1 is doomed or will fail it just won't catch up the PS4 worldwide. But it will indeed still sell well IMO.

The absence of evidence is NOT the evidence of absence...

PS1 wasn't the first majorly successful console in Europe.

Nintendo has had success there with NES and SNES, and even Wii. But beyond that, back in the 8bit era, Sega's Master System was actually surprisingly popular there.

I guess I'm just hoping that MS turns thing around by really 'bringing it' software-wise, as Sony did with the PS3. I never had a reason to own an Xbox because I'm not so into FPS. But if they can somehow shed their shooterbro image and start showing some variety, who knows.

It's a highly misleading comparison. PS3 made a great comeback by taking the European and Japanese markets despite being handily outsold in the US. However, the X1 does not have this luxury. It cannot fall back on Europe and Japan because the consumers there just don't want it. The best the X1 can do is to grab as many consumers as it can in the US and UK. However, we have seen the PS4 outselling the X1 by a good margin in those countries, too.

I think Xbox can advance, but PlayStation is a stronger brand. Even on PS3 era people wanted to buy a PS, but it was pricey.

The two major factors that lead to the ps3 catch up were blu-ray and continuously providing great first party games. Microsoft doesn't have a blu-ray equivalant so how about games? Only time will tell but I beleive it will play out the same as last time around with Sony producing a much better variety of first party exclusives over the long haul.

The Xbox one is an inferior box..... And only has that all in one as long as every other device you have is connected to it feature..... Ps3 had songs first party and the success of blue ray to push it

Following ps3's first year? They're blazing new trails

Xbox One is tracking above both 360 and ps3. Until Xbox One falls behind X360 considerably(witch will not happen this year) threads like this are pretty meaningless.

And no Xbox One is no Playstation.

The PS3 also had many selling points despite being expensive at the beginning. For a long while, it was the best (and cheapest) Blu-Ray player in the market. It's exclusive library is more diverse by a long shot. It was also good for media as proven when reports came out saying that the PS3 was the most used system for Netflix.

The X1 lacks selling points. Kinect proved to be dead weight more than a buttress to the X1. So far, its exclusives are lacking in quality. Heck, Dead Rising 3 is coming out on PC. Multiplats run better on the PS4 and we've seen how much more the PS4 versions sell.
