How much are Blu-ray movies?

I just checked Amazon.com for American prices.

They're roughly about $20-$25 each with some titles being sold for as low as $13.

With the weak dollar I might see if I can import a few movies, because those are great prices.

But did it make the movie any better -- i.e. funnier, improve the story line, etc. That, alas, Bluray will never do.

Those problems lie in the hands of script writers and directors, not technology.

Since i recently purchased a PS3... I thought, heck... I'm gonna go out and borrow a Blu-Ray movie. Wasn't expecting really much of it, because i already thought DVD looked really good. People saying it was up to 5x sharper then DVD. I didn't think you'd notice the difference, same like i didn't notice the difference between Composite and Component on my Wii. People were exagerating on that so i didn't expect much.

But well, back to the point. Someone told me that the best way to watch a new video-format was to use a computer-made movie. Something like Surf's up or Bee Movie or Cars. Something you normally wouldn't watch if there are other things to choose if you know what i mean. But i decided to go with Cars, my first entry in the Blu-Ray format.

So i start the film, and i was like WHAAAAAAT! Wayooo! (i'm a little exagerating here, but this is just to get the message over)... I really have to admit! This looks WAY better than DVD. Although i already thought that looked great! HD-movies definitely are a step forward! The detail is just magnificent. I'm really diggin' it! And i'm already looking forward to a new Blu-Ray movie! C'mon New Line Cinema, make an super-extended LoTR trilogybox for Blu-Ray! That would be my first real Blu-Ray purchase! (I rented Cars)!

Too bad i still don't have Dolby 7.1 surround. That would've been even better, uncompressed sound Ftw! ...

You should get Planet Earth on Blu Ray

My first Blu-ray movie that I recall was Crank, and I was amazed that you could see every single hair on his face.

Actually, in most cases yes, you notice many things on Blu-ray quality movies, than DVD's. More facial details, eye colors, better sound, and things you wouldn't think they'd take the time to do, and often you'll see something that helps with the storyline, that you otherwise would probably miss on normal DVD. And just the pure beauty and crispness of it makes in so much more enjoyable.

So yes, Blu-ray improves the movie in all aspects. You could say "oh its the same movie it just looks better" but like I said, those looks do effect your experience with the movie.

Not tested HD surround sound yet but watched Transformers, The Shining and Tomb Raider 2 in HD.

Transformers was an beautiful picture experience. The Shining was also quite good. Its good to see lovely quality on a big screen really makes an impact!

Ok, so im getting Planet Earth and 28 Weeks later (28 days later was awesome!)... Furthermore, i'm picking up Cloverfield!

Of course there's less of a difference as compared to DVD, using the same codecs at the same bitrate like many HD movies were there's no difference (assuming similar quality setups). However Blu-Ray movies can do higher bitrates than HD DVD can which will translate into enhanced quality on a good setup.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

I hear HD movies are kinda like glasses. First you think you don't need them, but then you get some and they totally blow your mind. Then you get used to them and no more mind blowing occures, but they're still nice to have around. Then you try going back to the old one day, and realise how much it's making your eyes hurt, and that you're stuck with your new purchase until something better comes along.

That's why I'm staying the heck away from them until I can afford both a HDTV and something to play the movies with. I simply cannot afford to have all my old games start to look like shit all of a sudden. =P
