Forums - Gaming - Apple frustrated with "mentality" in mobile market

Apple people do not buy ipads to play games which they have to pay!
Wake up and smell the fucking coffee!

Anyway Minecraft pocket edition sold 21 million at 7 bucks.. clearly its the developers mindset.. not Apple or Google's.. Sure they made it possible to sell 1 billion+ capable devices but its still up to the developer to do something with it..

I'm frustrated with it as well. The need to get everything for free is resulting in a deluge of low quality products.

As somebody who works at Gameloft I can tell you, that the quality barrier of the iOS app store is 0. We had "games" being released, that I am certain that nobody ever looked at it, and they got released in a state that was simply broken. And it gets worse on Android. You can get an app released for Android devices, even if it was tested on a single device, and the firm logo appeared. Terrible.

I know that there is plenty of quality software on app stores, but they are lost and all that they become is the dumping ground of any software ever concieved, with titles driven purely by viral marketing and undeserved hype.

I'm really enjoying that jousting game "Rival Knights".

Yeah, if someone spent 600$ on an iPad, it should be nothing to spend 4$ on a game... The problem, in my oppinion, is the very poor quality of the majority of games on the AppStore, people know that the majority of games will be crap. And then there are those games you spend 4$ but then need to spend a tone of $ to actually enjoy it...

This is exactly the problem. I think we can add as another problem coming from these stream of low quaility software is that people are becoming used to always have a free (usually F2P) alternative, so they are becoming used to get it for free. People spend a lot more in clothes, gadgets, lunchs and so on, but they never got it for free. People tend to give value for a product based on what they usually pay for it and in mobile it's usually zero. Zero value, zero quality, zero interest.

Only app I ever "bought" for Android was PDANET+, I'm not intersted in buying apps otherwise, and I use my smartphone daily.

That's funny, since they're the ones who created that whole ecosystem and the mentality that goes with it.

Exactly what I was thinking. Gaming has been devalued to the point where it is seen as worthless to many mobile owners I know.   The race to the bottom has left companies with nowhere to go.  Not sure how they will alter this mindset now.

if they can't compete at with free they can always go less than free.

"Mobile will take over" My ass. xD

that is quite the image you just put in my head...

Here we go! Apple is crying again. Man, I can't tell you how much I hate that company. People don't want to pay much for the 3429034203840283408290384 versions of flappy bird. The vast majority of games on any mobile market are crap and the ones that have some quality to them are bogged down in micro transactions. So I a game app that's worth more than $4 and I will buy it... (Not on Apple, of course, would rather be kicked in the balls, then own an Apple product)

Apple frustrated with "mentality" of their product prices.
Gotcha now, Apple.

But its also a ripoff of this game: http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/iPad/Joust+Legend/review.asp?c=53748

The dev time was little over 4 months if I remember correctly and the only reason it came out decent was thankfully for its simplicity
