Forums - Gaming - The difference between the failure of the XB1 and the Wii U.

The X1 is in a way better shape than the wii U really, it's getting all the big third party games and probably will get them the entire gen which will assure it keep selling a long time unlike the wii U that once nintendo jump ship, like they did with the wii, sales will plummet

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

The big difference between the 2 is in their first party game sales. Nintendo has plenty of games that have broke into the million seller range. 3 of them went over 2 million. First party game sales means more profit per sale vs 3rd party games. And since most of their games keep sensible budgets they see more of a return on their games. It might not be the gigantic AAA game budgets like Destiny's 500 million but it doesn't matter as long as the games make enough sales to be profitable.

Its not important IF you fail, its HOW you fail.lol

It's more likely MS will get to that point first IMO. Nntendo needs Wii U more than MS needs Xbox.

They are both struggling, no need to sugar coat it.

Yup.  I own a Vita and love it, but I know it will sell 18-25m most likely.  I'm not gonna complain when I see a thread that states this...

Does anyone expect Destiny to move a lot of XB1s?

It may move some, but I expect to see a massive amount of PS4s moved.

Well, reason why PS4 is doing better is because its overhyped, thats what I think. People buy it because the "trend".

While it's library of games I want is currently thin, you can't deny that it is the best home console for multiplat games this generation, and that's just not going to change. Until more people jump onto the PC for multiplats, it's hard to say the PS4 is overhyped.

Currently, it is mainly hype and good PR that supports the hype. The current game list shouldn't convince anyone to buy the system, in my opinion. But looking at the future it would be sane to buy a PS4 as it gets good 3rd party support and some exclusives are definite top games (well, at least UC4).

I agree, a combination of long-lasting hype (it's been going on for over a year, since last year's E3), a smattering of quality titles so far, and a strong promise of excellent future 1st and 3rd party support.

In honesty, all consumer electronics need mainly hype to sustain its launch, but the further away from launch we are, they need some tangible assets to keep them selling. Both Nintendo and Microsoft botched their pre-launch hype to some extent, and are still feeling it today.

It has a decent list of titles that are worthwhile. The new Killzone was overhyped but it didn't seem so terrible. There's also InFAMOUS, which is one of the three games I'll be buying the PS4 to play, the other two being MGSV and Bloodborne. It also has the best console versions of AC4, WD, FIFA14, and CoD:G (even if it does suck).

It's all in the eye of the beholder I guess. Barring a huge windfall, I'm not buying one until Bloodborne is out.

The failings are the same for both consoles - too little power leading to a cap on innovation in games. Most of the market sees this, hence the low sales on both.

So power = innovation these days? Super Mario 3D world has more innovation in its first world than any PS4/XB1 game released so far.
