While it's library of games I want is currently thin, you can't deny that it is the best home console for multiplat games this generation, and that's just not going to change. Until more people jump onto the PC for multiplats, it's hard to say the PS4 is overhyped.

Currently, it is mainly hype and good PR that supports the hype. The current game list shouldn't convince anyone to buy the system, in my opinion. But looking at the future it would be sane to buy a PS4 as it gets good 3rd party support and some exclusives are definite top games (well, at least UC4).

I agree, a combination of long-lasting hype (it's been going on for over a year, since last year's E3), a smattering of quality titles so far, and a strong promise of excellent future 1st and 3rd party support.
In honesty, all consumer electronics need mainly hype to sustain its launch, but the further away from launch we are, they need some tangible assets to keep them selling. Both Nintendo and Microsoft botched their pre-launch hype to some extent, and are still feeling it today.
