hm... if they were still rivalling but making the crap they are.... I don't know. Sonic has gone down hill so much plus other things, it just makes me wonder how they'd handel their consoles

SEGA:s problem was packaging. They managed to make Sonic extremely attractive but most of the time, the marketing sucked from SEGA. The Saturn was a misstep in marketing, not game quality. The Panzer games, Shining games, Everything from Treasure and the fighters made the Saturn Amazing. SEGA simply stumbled when it came to actually showing people what they offered.

SEGA should have gone into business with MS. With MS´s marketing abilities and SEGA´s vision, they would have been unstoppable together.

They are to far off to ever enter the business again, which is a real shame.

Then maybe I would have a Panzer Dragoon Saga HD remake by now. Give me that game NOW Sega, you bitches.

Nintendo would still be owning Sega's butt.

They did. Dreamcast used WinCE.

Dreamcast failed because it was pirate heaven.

Yeah, I know. The Dreamcast was a masterpice in terms of tech and the low pricepoint, but that 1GB drive made it way to easy to pirate. I am thinking in a bigger picture, not by just supplying the operating system, but actually merging the two companies´ gaming departments.

While SEGA was no doubt an important figure that helped to shape the modern videogame industry, there's no denying that their overall software library took a noticeable drop in quality after the dust had settled from the 16-bit war. The Saturn's library was underwhelming and the Dreamcast had some real gems but not enough to sustain in long term.  And ever since they exited the console hardware market, they've only had a handful of quality titles while releasing dud after dud for the past decade-plus, usually with the word "Sonic" in the title.

Simply put, with today's consoles being on such even ground in terms of hardware, it's all about the games more than ever, and there's no way SEGA could sustain a console on first party titles alone the way that Nintendo can, and 3rd parties would be even more reluctant to thrown their hat in the ring with SEGA than they are with Nintendo these days.

Their game quality was still high until their studios were basically gutted like fish and they lost a lot of their employees.

For example I think F-Zero GX is probably one of the best if not the best game on the GameCube.

Saturn was a misstep, but Sega Master System, Genesis, and Dreamcast all had ace 1st party software and there's no reason to believe that wouldn't have continued if Sega had a place in the industry still.

That was by Amusement Vision who also did the stellar Monkey Ball 1 & 2 on GC.  Sadly they pretty much went defunct (as did alot of other SEGA studios) after the SEGA-Sammy merger.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Who the hell can even say no?

Sega always was something super stylish and futuristic.

Dreamcast is regarded by all true gamers as one of the best consoles of its time (it was).

But because the market was rapidly changing, and worldwide casuals barely starting to buy consoles, it didn't succeed.

I think they're the only one who could clear the mind of Nintendo and make the ultimate wet dream of all true gamers that never happened: a Sega-Nintendo console.
