Forums - Gaming - Why I don't think the PS4 will pass 100m

I agree that it won't reach 100M, as I see these sales being more front loaded than most PS consoles, but I do think it will sell more than the PS3.

I don't see the PS4 doing 100 million either, but it still will reach high numbers, maybe the same as PS3.

Me too... I think it wont make it over 100 million cause it won't be in the market as long as the ps3 is going for imo just cause if u think of how powerful the ps3 was relative to how powerful the ps4 is, I doubt it will last that long but if it does, great! The ps3's power was basically $2000sh gaming PC back in the day but now, u can make a PC thats about $1000 or less and it will be more powerful than a ps4

But anything can happen so... We will see

um... I have a computer that has a bit more than what the PS4 is that I bought back about 6 months after the PS3 launch and it was only $1,200... (I have since upgraded some of the hardware but initally, it was $1,200 and I still have the old cards, ram and processor) Maybe if you buy it pre-built and get kind of a crappy deal then yeah but if you get the parts and put it together, you'd be surprised at the power you can get in a PC for $1,000-$1,200

uh...no. the 1000 dollar PC i bought ~8 months after the PS3 was released was waaayy more powerful than the PS3. more powerful than the Wii U and almost as powerful as the XB1.

That is just a common misconception. Consoles are always "week" since day one when compared to PC. No gen was ever an exception.

I think people sometimes forget that the PS2 sold 150M because it sold a lot to casuals, just as the Wii did, but for different reasons.

pretty much the same reason a lot of shovelware.

Recently with alot of peoples predictions, they said they think will think PS4 will sell over 100 million units

While I admit, the PS4 is doing great but if you look at the sales of the PS3 it was selling 150k every week and that didn't even do 90m, plus it was on the market for 7+ years

The only way I think it can pass 100m is if it is on the market for 9+ years and continues to sell after the PS5 comes out

It's not like the PS3 is over, though. It is still selling and I think by the end of its lifetime it will have over 90 million units sold.

The PS4 has all the cards to be more successful than its predecessor, though. Unlike the PS3, this time it has a lot less competition, since the Xbox One has gathered a poor reputation and the Wii U is struggling to pick up sales. PS3 was competing against two consoles with wide casual appeal last gen.

It's still very early in the generation to be sure of anything, and a lot can change, but I don't think there's anything stopping the PS4 getting to at least 100m.

um, the PS3 will need to sell without dropping what it is now for the next 4-5 years in order to hit 90 mil

PS4 passing 100M to me is a no brainier

the reason why PS3 is having a hard time/couldnt get pass 100M is b/c 360 and even the wii took loads of sales from it aswell as having a rough start form launch till about when UC2 release the ps4 wont have these issues its the it console this gen

1. At the at the rate It's going (And It's going to keep dropping off yearly) PS3 can probably barely hit 90 million.

2. PS4 doesn't have the hardware to go as long as PS3 did, It's already outdated. Plus, it will be maxed out pretty easily. It took them up to 2013 to max out the PS3 (The Last of Us), and when it launched it wasn't outdated.

3. The gap between sales of the Wii and PS3/360 was bigger than the gap between PS4 and Wii U/Xbox One. Wii was able to get 100k over 360 and PS3, but PS4 is getting about 30k above Wii U and Xbox One currently.

Edit: To add on to #4, they are all also well priced when compared to one another, when Wii used to be a lot cheaper. And the smaller gap in sales gives Nintendo and Microsoft a better chance at releasing a game that can put them above the PS4.

I have look at the dates you people have joined this site. I have been around VGC since 2006/2007.

You have not been around long enough to see the sales trends of consoles. To look at the PS4's sales so far and say it wont pass 100 million is very interesting. No console that has sold at this trajectory this early in its life has failed to to pass 100 million units.
Also the PS4 still has many games yet to release and many price cuts to go through. The PS4 is still outpacing the PS2 in the same time frame at a higher price.

Just think about that.

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

Shrinking market and shorter gen says no.

Lol, PS4 will pass 100 million. (With in it's 10 year life cycle)
