They COULD have won this gen if they went with a regular console from the get go, the whole DRM fiasco screwed them big time.
Microsoft doesn't have the spirit to think for themselves when making games. In other words, no artistic sense outside of layout design for OS. They have no inspiration to create a cohesive style, so they will always just look at what other people make and just buy that. They will always be a third party console until they change their ways and focus on creating their own distinct image and body of work like Nintendo and Sony have. Being MLG is great but there are larger audiences out there that want more than a handful of exclusives as soon as a console generation gets into full swing (not just the beginning).

No and no. This may be their last "console."

personally I think it could potentially be the last console from all three of them, They cost too much investment wise to develop and market, return too little profit wise and the market is arguably shrinking. though if one was going to stop making consoles I would expect Sony to be the first to pull the ripcord.

MS got lucky with Sony's misteps, a cheaper console and a year head start and sPS3 still sold more. That was their only chance and it will never happen with Sony back on their game from the start. he 360 did not sell that much outside USA either, which Sony dominates.
They win the computer gen as most people use their operating system to play games. lol
Nintendo won't win next gen, it'll probably be Sony again (PS5, Xbox 2, and whatever the new Nintendo console is called) So no it won't alternate between Sony and Nintendo.
