Forums - Gaming - The Console that got me into JRPGS...

Probably Chrono Trigger or Super Mario RPG on the SNES, both being easy to get into and complete.

The console that got me into JRPGs was the good ol' SNES with Super Mario RPG in '97! Good times!

That would be the snes for me. Final Fantasy 6, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana... Doesn't make me feel any younger :(

Wow, you actually made this thread. Still a cute if ultimately depressing story though!

My first RPG console(s) were the GBA (Pokemon) and the PS2 (Final Fantasy and more).

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

The N64 got me into them and the 360 out of them.

NES was my start for JRPG's. Enix's Dragon Warrior followed by Square Soft's Final Fantasy. Loved and played both to completion. I actually hung up the beginning chapter pages artwork from the Final Fantasy Player's Guide by Nintendo around my room.

Wow, lolll, I have never heard that phrase before. Xbox 360 getting people in jrpgs? Thats a first! Interesting! I think mine was the snes with games like FF and Earthbound and etc. I must say though, tales of vesperia being xbox 360 exclusive is like just zomg for tales fans like me. Like, when my friend got tales of vesperia, I was like, dw dude, it will come to the ps3 eventually but it never came T_T (to the west that is)

I know, lol! One of my first JRPGs on console I remember playing was Tales of Vesperia and I think I was in high school at the time. 2009 maybe? Was just an amazing game with probably my favorite cast of characters to date. And yeah... years later I realized the PS3 is the main 7th gen king of JRPGs, so just playing through them now!

omg you made this thread :)

The console that got me into jrpgs was the snes, games like Earthbound (my fav game of all time), FF6, and Super Mario RPG got me into the genre. I was playing jrpgs since I was 5, kind of strange compared to the children of today.

lol! :)
Damn... so if Nintendo made another Earthbound game you'd be tempted to buy a U huh :)
And at that age I was playing a pretty much Pokemon and crappy movie games. I did play Spyro though, so that a plus.

360 got you into jrpgs?? Man I'm old...

Nah, you're not old.
I'm just very late to the party. :)

If Paper Mario TTYD is a JRPG, then the GC did.

I mean, I did play Paper Mario as a kid. 64, TTYD, and Super Paper Mario, but like Pokemon, I wouldn't consider them hardcore JRPGs.
Although I think I played Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn on the Wii before Vesperia... both were around the same time when I played them.

Xbox 360 really did have some great years for JRPGs

It was the PS1 for me though. Final Fantasy 7-9 all released in a short space of time, it was just so

It really did have some amazing games in its beginning. Wish it continued that streak throughout its life :(
And yeah most people here got into JRPGS in the PS1 era, sucks that I missed it. I wasn't that big of a gamer really until the 7th gen. That's when I followed most of the news online, etc. That's also the gen where I had all three consoles.

When Pokemon red/blue came out I no life'd the fuck outta that game... my friends and I would seriously just lay around and play that game literally all day, shit I would accidentally fall asleep with the gameboy on lmao

Just having Earthbound on VC almost makes me want to buy it lmao but then again I have the physical copy (in box might I add) or I could just get a ROM... there will probably never be another Mother game :/

Final Fantasy II on SNES!

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

For me it was the Sega MAster System with Phantasy Star, a friend of mine had it and despite my reluctance (I mst have been like 11)  he got me hooked on the story and world that spanned multiple planets, even the combat system that required some (basic) strategy and resource management.

After that seeing Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior on the NES was a HUGE disapointment (I don't know if they came out in that order, but I saw Phantasy Star first, compared to other RPGs of the time, it had a better story, better graphics, as well as better music and 3D dungeons!).
