Forums - Gaming - Sony is looking at remastering PS3 titles the same way Disney remasters movies

"We envy the movie industry."

In other words: We envy the huge profits they reap from putting minimal effort into remaking/rebooting classics. Why put money into script and story writers, when you can just take an few years old product and add bloom!

But on a more serious note, this is simply the next step of Sony's new stance of Expect Less From Us: Expect Less AAA -> More Indies to Fill the Gap! -> Remasters!

Well Im not a Halo fan, but the MCC is a good one. The Metroid Prime Trilogy, The Orange Box, The ICO & SOTC Collection. All great for gamers and companies alike.

So i take it this is why there was no backwards compatibility.

The reason there is no backwards compatibility is the same reason there was no backwards compatibility for N64, SNES, and GCN for Nintendo.  And to a lesser extent Xbox One, Xbox 360.  It's too expensive.

lol, That's a lame excuse. The play is a blueray player that can play both PS4 discs and Audio discs. How much money would it really cost for them to make it so the PS4 can play.... other blueray discs, compact discs and such. I got a $30 DVD drive and it can run all of those. This is nothing more than a cash grab plot.

Beeing able to run PS3 games ina PS4 is a lot more intricated than having the Blue Ray player able to read the PS3 discs. They basically need to make a machine that functions and is programmed in a very different way than a PS3 think it is a PS3 and theres a lot of programming, time and money investment that goes into that. Theres a reason why the first thing PS3 did to reduce its selling price was to release a model with no backwards compatibility...

Disney typically does this with decades old movies though, not year old ones.

It's fine then because PS3 games look like they're decades old.

I guess theres no point in me buying a ps4 then since all the games are gonna be ports anyways

The Last Guardian is not going to be a port..

Yeah but that game wont ever release so...

If you're interested in Nintendo content and understand german, maybe you want to take a look at my youtube channel! :)

The games are far too new and can hardly be considered "classics". Hell, they were released on the same medium of distribuition, the BluRay.

Especially drawing the link to Disney, this just seems dumb. But if people buy, that's their own fault, I guess, and Sony should exploit these people as long as it works out for them.
