Not to be racist, is a society analysis:
China is a different place, full of people and of course, a lot of this people dies every day because of bad standard of living, so many of them don't give importance to "life".
Japan is also similar to China in this, not in this way, but the Japanese suicide rate is really impressive.
The difference If you compare it to America is big so most of american people don't want to accept this kind of actions... but we can say the same between European society (expecially Italy, which is where I live and most of people is catholic) and most of USA laws (death penalty, easy availability of guns etc.), many Europeans consider unacceptable this kind of stuff, so yeah, just different places with different society, nothing to be surprised.

Yeah don't get me wrong, this is actually kind of scary and sad, but if you know how the Chinese society thinks, is not actually that weird.

Sneakers or footballs? That's not the worst purpose for which children are sold by any stretch of the imagination. In fact such children have at least some chance of a psychologically normal life once they're adults.
