My God there's a lot of young kids here that weren't around for the 3rd gen!

I'm more surprised by how many weren't even around for the 4th...

Yup that's quite frightening. It's not the AAA games we should worry about but all the young gamers that's not grown up really hard games. If you haven't tried Ghost'n'Goblins you ain't no real gaemr.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

4,3,6,7,8,5,2,1. That is all.

I haven't played much 3rd, 4th, or 6th gen games.

1. 7th (It's inflated, I played more seventh gen games than all the others)
2. 6th (The Nintendo games)
3. 5th (Ditto)
4. 4th (I'd probably be ahead of 5th gen if I played more games)
5. 3rd (It's the 2nd lowest lowest because I think lots of the games, especially Zelda 1, don't do anything for me)
6. 8th (It's too new to be ahead of anything)

Glad to see I'm not the only one who notices.  When I read comments like this...

I don't remember anything pre-PlayStation...

Seriously?  Good God, that makes me feel old!

Let's see, order of the generations...

4th - My precious Mega Drive (Genesis).  Yes, I admit it: I'm a Sega fanboy.  The combination of nostalgia and genuinely brilliant games makes this my all-time favourite console, and by extension, my favourite generation.

5th - So many great games on the original Playstation and N64.  It was on the Playstation that my love of survival horror was born.  And the N64 still has my two favourite FPS's: Goldeneye and Perfect Dark.

6th - This is where I started to fall away from gaming a little.  I still had some fantastic times during this era - in fact, this gen contains some of my favourite games - but my experiences were definitely becoming more spread out.

7th - I was largely absent from this gen, though I still enjoyed the occasional game here and there.  This was also the gen that really pushed online play, and while I have nothing against multiplayer, it's never been my preferred style.  And frankly, even if it were, it wouldn't matter because on the occasions that I've tried to do a little multiplayer... well, let's just say that my internet connection and I have a difference of opinion.

2nd - Yes, I'm really that old.  The Atari 2600 was my first system, and while I have many fond memories of it, I have to put it fairly low on the list because, as cool as it was back in the day, the poor old thing simply can't compare to the greatness that was to come in the latter parts of the 2D era.

3rd - The reason I'm putting this here is because, honestly, I have no direct experience with it.  I basically skipped this generation altogether, playing my Atari well into the late 80s, and going from the 2600 directly to the Mega Drive.  So, yeah.  I don't dislike the 3rd gen; but since I'm basically ignorant of it, I have to put it fairly low on my list of preferences.

8th - Obviously, the most recent gen hasn't had a lot of time to really show us what it's got yet.  So, as it stands right now, it's at the bottom for me.  We have, of course, seen a little bit, but not much that would push it higher on my list, to be honest.  If anything, it so far looks to be even more multiplayer-focused than last gen.  Which is great if you love multiplayer.  Not so much if you're me.

1st (Honourable mention) - No, I didn't own a Magnavox.  I'm not that bloody old!

ColdFire - The man with no name.

as of 7/13/2014

6th - A clear winner in PS2 put developers focus on one platform, and it was good for the industry.

5th - PS1 changed my view of video games and again was the clear winner, N64 was the best Big N console ever, and still the best games they produced to this day IMO.

7th - To fractured to rank any higher, but we leave it with many positives. All of the big three made major progress for the industry in this gen. XBL, SCEWWS, and Interactive gaming all went through their growing pains, and left us with some fun times. The toll of a fractured market took many 3rd parties under.

4th - Slightly better than the 3rd, but I was to young and to poor to fully enjoy either.

3rd - A proper introduction to gaming. Glad I came up with this instead on the 1st two generations.

End of the Gen Prediction

8th gen will rule the roost - PlayStation will once again give the industry a clear winner, and a software powerhouse. SCEWWS are in full stride, and have shifted almost all focus to home consoles. Sony will let the imagination flow even more as it collects more royalties, and puts that money back into new IP, Remakes, Remaster, and new techs.

3rd parties and indies will once again thrive, as consumers are all funneled to the one safe platform. Creativity, and sales will thrive, and more amazing new franchises will be born.

PSN will be the best service in the industry, it will have the largest userbase, the most access to developers and publishers, hold all of the tournaments, and give the best gaming experience in the industry. PS Now will hit all major electronics, and Project Morpheus will build the foundation for VR gaming which will lead into the 9th generation.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. 4th > 6th > 5th >>>>> 7th

SNES for life, GC/PS2 combo is beast, PSONE alone destroys all consoles in 7th gen combined.
