Forums - Sony - Sony admits PS4 is a tough sell in Japan

It may do worse than PS3's 10 million in Japan. Even the almighty Wii sold only 12.5 million there. The console market is severly dwindling over there

Ironic considering a Limited Edition Frozen PS4 is confirmed for Japan. Probably won't really help with sales tho.

needs japan oriented games, not sure its worth making those though.

Way to many cross-gen games and updated ports/remasters from Japanese devs. They aren't doing well at all to boot, which isn't helping instill confidence in the system. The big sellers seem so far away...

Japanese developers did the same thing with Vita game development at first. They stuck to PSP way too long.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

I'm sure it will pick up massively once it gets some Japan centric games. The western release had loads of Western games so the success is no surprise.

As far as I know, there is nothing major until way into 2015

Maybe Deep Down. If they get it done in time.

I keep forgetting about that game.  It is F2P, I don't know if that is popular in Japan on consoles but if it releases soon with good reviews it could shift some units I suppose, though it wouldn't be a lot

It looks great, i'll be itching to try the Japanese beta once it starts

To add to that, in a market(Japan) that favors quality gameplay over graphic fidelity(just look at the handheld market), why do they really need a PS4 that essentially only gives them upgraded graphics?

This sounds so odd and definitely doesn't hold as an absolute truth. Handhelds are popular because of commuter culture and the low cost associated, not because of any gameplay over graphics rubbish.

It's also rubbish to say that the PS4 only gives them upgraded graphics. Last time I checked my PS4 did a ton of things.

I agree that it is not an absolute, but neither is your explanation.  In almost every large city in Europe or the US, there is a huge commuter market.  In all markets, the cost is King, so that answer means nothing too.  It will always be a combination of many things.

It is near the end of the end....
