Forums - Sales - Why PS4 and Xbox One are too expensive

People, especially teens, do not save their money. The majority of people buying systems are teens. S pay check from a part time job cannot buy a console and a game. People spend their money before they have enough to purchase the console. That is why consoles need to be250-300 dollars to hit a mass market. I know plenty of people that want to buy a game console but they end up spending their money of drugs or movie tickets before they have enough and they keep delaying their purchase

Sounds like people's problem, especially teens.  With everything in life, moderation is key, if you can't moderate the things you do to be able to afford the things you want, how will you ever succeed in the world.  Welcome to growing up.

Definitely agree with you here. :)

3 months it took me with life, to save for Mario Kart 8. :P

This isn't news. There will always be more people that can buy something if it were cheaper. Right now, the PS4/XB1 are for those that can afford to spend $400 on a console. Either that they have the cash on hand or that they could put enough aside for it in around 2/3 months. Majority of the teens you talk about will also be getting them as a birthday or Christmas present or something.

In a year or two the price drops and opens up to an entire new audience of buyers. That has always been the case with consoles and tech in general for that matter.

Lol. Since when are teens spending their own money?
Teens don't have money, their parents have. If they can have a console or not lies with them. Most of the time it's not even about money why they can't have one.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I think it depends on your community. For me growing up most kids got jobs at 15-17, heck I worked odd jobs since I was 8 (lawn care being easy one).  I actually had great deal of disposable income as a teenager even with saving for school and investing 15% a week.  For me University were lean years paying for books and living expenses.

I would say kids (under 13) that there was much pleading and selling of the NES or SNES to my folks and their valuation meant everything.  To them a video game console was not worth more than $150 regardless of how cool the games were or how advanced the tech was.

I know, teens, meh... they are the worst, right?

smh... this is such a sad thread, is there any teenager here who's going to rectify this with some teenage wisdom?

Isn't that an oxymoron? :)

Here in brazil PS4 cost officially ~$2000(~$750-$1000 on the grey market) and each game cost $100-150.

The minimum wage is $304.08.

And aparently PS4 is selling quite well here.

Nice... I guess there's just no respect.

You know we've got a lot of teen VGCharters, right? It would have been the truth in many cases if it wasn't pure hypocrisy coming from an average adult.

How is that hypocrisy?  Most people who are adult, have been a teen before, and can recognize that of all the things teens are blessed with, wisdom is rarely one of those things.  It's why we make tons of mistakes as kids/young adults, but it's a necessary part of growing up.  Also, smiley face, usually denotes a joke.  But, I can go either way with it if you prefer.  I can cite any number of dumb teen actions that I've seen personally, read about, or did myself.  It's nothing to be ashamed of, as long as you learned from it.

Okay, right. But from my experince, adults aren't often blessed with much wisdom either. At least kids will listen to you when you give them advice.

I am not infatuated by the younger generation, don't get me wrong. I'm in terror because of many of the things I see them doing. I worry that they won't wise up, living in a world like this. Every new generation of kids creates a different generation of adults, so I don't think they're really comparable to anything, but what the future will bring, and who they'll be when they grow up, we've yet to see.
