Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo's Problem -- There Simply Isn't Room For 3 Consoles

Except that Nintendo create games that really are important to gaming unlike sony and microsoft who are mostly dependant to 3rd party games. What would be the gaming world without a mario or zelda made by nintendo ?

It be more or less the same.  Really, i couldnt care less.  Sales show that most gamers dont care either.

If ninty went extinct tommorow, plenty would rise to take its place, most would fail but a few would do a bang up job creting the next rpg or platformer. If theres demend some one will try to meet it, none in gaming are imperative towards its survival.  Gaming has grow far beyond one corps failure being able to sink it.

I can see that and it certainly wouldnt be the worst thing to happen. I just really like Nintendo consoles. They are different and always bring some cool things to the table...

They really dont, you just tell your selfs that as a fan of theirs.  nes snes N64 GC did nothing really different from its competition.  Only wii was something else.

Well you can thank the NES for the D-Pad, the SNES for the shoulder buttons, the N64 for the analog stick and rumble feature, and the GC for the wireless controller(one that works anyway)

I think the gameboy is the most important one.

I could just as well make the argument that there is only room for ONE console; Atari used to dominate, then Nintendo with NES And then Sony with PS1 & 2. Thats 4 generations when ONE console has dominated the market, but since we still have Nintendo and MS (and HAD Sega) making consoles that claim isn't true.

Nintendo's problem is that they need an appealing and unique console. Case in point; NES and Wii. Both were unique when they were released and had extremely compelling SW to show off the systems; Mario and Wii Sports. SNES wasn't all that different from Sega and neither were GameCube from PS2 and Xbox. The anomaly is N64 which introduced proper 3D games but were still beaten by Sonys PS1. The problem with Wii U is that it's not unique enough; iPads are everywhere now so that touchscreen thing isn't all that cool any more. And they don't have the SW to show case the system.

It's hard to come up with a unique idea every single time though, those ideas just don't grow on trees.

And the NES, really it dominated because it had every third party game imaginable whereas the Sega Master System, being locked out of third party contracts had ... Sega games only (kinda bizarre how Nintendo has sort of inadvertantly become Sega from the Master System days).

While I agree that this isnt a viable option in the long run its the trend thats worked well for nintendo. My point wasnt really that thats what they need to do but to question ur analysis of the industry.

I dont really know what nintendo needs to do, all I know is that they need something appealing, but what that is... who knows

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Oh god really?

Lets look at the current situation.

PC, Android, iOS, PS, Xbox, Nintendo

There isn't room for 3? Bull f'n shurt. There is more platforms in the game than you think. What I see here is a Nintendo hater thread and butthurt fanboys who want NIntendo IPs on their trashy platforms....

Trashy platforms? Lol

Why do so many people have to say shit about the other platforms when they defend their console of choice...?

It was the heat of the moment thought lol. Anyways trashy yes, but Nintendo IPs on other platforms would suffer greatly from zero hardware input. Nintendo games are built for Nintendo hardware, and always has been that way and forever will stay that way until they leave the console market and vault their IPs.

Replace Nintendo with SEGA and turn the clock back to either 1996 or 2000, and your post makes perfect sense.

And Nintendo would be doing great if M$ would just exit the business altogether? Really? All that would accomplish is a rebirth of the PS1/2 era where one console dominated and the others hung on for dear life if they didn't die an early death.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.
