Forums - Nintendo - UPDATED!!! MORE RUMORS: Retro Working on Diddy Kong Racing 2 (Wii U)

Do you like this idea?

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 339 36.93%

No... Retro should do something else 281 30.61%

Only if they can do it an... 261 28.43%

dat fur... 35 3.81%

Total:916

There is some MAJOR reading comprehension problems here. The original rumor states Monster Games is working on the game with Retro helping out. Even if Retro is the main developer, there is alot of people who would be excited for this game even if true.

Saying no one would want this game is a lie. This poll proves this. And this is coming from people who believe Retro is developing this game even though it would be Monster developing this game. Coming from this rumor, you will be riding on animal buddies and with the added adventure mode, the difference between MK and DKR2 would be vastly great.

Reasons why DKCTF hasn't been selling well:
1. The system has a poor install base
2. The game's difficulty and hardcore nature is off putting for the regular casual gamer.
3. Before the game released, it had the unfair stigma of it not being a Metroid, Star Fox, etc. and it would be just another platformer. Soon, people who were once negative of this game would later regret it.

Almost any game that is on the Wii U hasn't been selling well that isn't Mario or Zelda. DKCTF sales shouldn't be blamed on the actual quality of the game, but rather the system itself.

I firmly believe a Metroid game would have moved more wii u units than DK would, but the sales of Metoid itself wouldn't compare to DKCTF sales if DK came right after. This is how Nintendo probably should have handled the situation. However, I wouldn't want Nintendo to ''force'' Retro to make a Metroid, DK, or any game. I know a lot of the Metroid fanbase believe the big N forced them to make DK. Even if they did, Retro probably wouldn't have mind. Otherwise, we would've had a half assed game with glitches and such.

Mario is pretty much the only remaining exception.

Tropical Freeze tells the true story; a series that sold 6 million less than four years ago, but bombs in 2014.

DKR would suffer the same fate.

Says who? TF failed because it's a 2D platformer on a home console, not because people don't want Donkey Kong or something. It would have sold better on a 3DS where it makes sense. DKR isn't on the same boat. It would be a first party kart racer on a home console. That actually makes sense.

Look, I know it sucks, I'm not particularly happy that the market has turned this way either, but it's the unfortunate truth that the "critics who treat adult as a term of approval" sadly make up a huge chunk of the console market at the moment.

Except, "dark and mature" games are quite capable of flopping on the Wii U too. So far nothing has reliably sold well on the system outside of Mario games.

NSMBU, Mario 3D World, and Mario Kart 8 are going to be the no. 1/2/3 selling games on the system until Smash Bros. catches 3D World, and that's another game that prominently features Mario.

I don't think Metroid will honestly do that great on the Wii U either. Retro's probably better off working on something new.

Or maybe Nintendo could let them collaborate on a third party IP ... remember Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes made by Silicon Knights under Nintendo.

Maybe they could do a Resident Evil game or something.

I already said that, that it doesn't have to be Metroid. Just something with appeal beyond the existing fanbase.

Not the Wii U console market.

Not the Wii U console market.

The Wii U's existing market base is unsustainably small. Appealing to just them is not enough for Nintendo to  survive.

I don't think a few "mature" titles on the Wii U will help at all. They'd need to go big or go home if they want to get those type of gamers on the Wii U or future consoles. One Metroid game won't do it.

They need to go BIG with the next Animal Crossing I think. The popularity of that franchise seem to be at an all time high...

I agree, Nintendo should be looking to expand userbase first as a priority, especially now that the Wii U is no longer sold at a loss.

Every game is just "one game" by itself, but each contributes to the cumulative impact of the whole.

True. New IPs and sequels to franchises thats not already on the WiiU...except Mario. I would like another 3D platformer
