To be fair, there hasn't been a Metroid game "lately". It's the kind of game that would have much more appeal in the HD era than on GC/Wii.

Other M was a gigantic flop compared to all the hype it got and hwo it was pushed. Nintendo wazs shocked at how poorly it sold.
| curl-6 said: Metroid or a hardcore new IP has much more appeal outside that fanbase than DKR2, yes. |
Who cares? DKR2 wouldn't be trying to sell outside that fanbase. Metroid doesn't sell nearly enough outside the Nintendo fanbase to make it somehow more valuable than a DKR2.
| Lucas-Rio said: Metroid has been selling really poorly lately outside the metroid fanbase. It's like saying F-zero would sell more than DKR2, which it wouldn't. But I agree that DKR2 is an unnecessary game as for the Kart genre, MK8 is the king and is self sufficient. Nintendo should put more ressources toward games like Animal Crossing or a true 3D Mario. As for Retro, they shouldn't forever become the DK studio eventough I like DK. |
MK64 was the king of the kart genre. Diddy Kong Racing still sold more than half. DKR2 is not unessecary.

You keep basing assumption of sales today based on games from different eras. This isn't the 1990s. It's not 2010.
This is 2014. Gamers want to play a dark HD sci-fi adventure more than they want Diddy Kong driving a cartoon hovercraft in HD.

Because Other M was (A) a godawful game, and (B) wasn't on HD level hardware.

HD is completely irrelevant, it does not make game sells much more. But it makes game costs much more and makes it harder to recoup the losses.

It is unnecessary at covering the basic Wii U needs. As a depth game in the library it would please a lot of people, but I am not sure that's the gamer to do at this point, when the Wii U need to be helped. MK8 has bounced life back to Wii U and Nintendo should let it do his magic for at least two years.

You really think Mario Kart 8 would have sold just as much in 2014 if it had the same graphics as Maro Kart Wii? Graphics matter to gamers, even if they don't to you.

Other M was on Wii, and the reason it sold poorly wasn't the lack of HD.
