If DKR2 by Retro is announced, it will be a laughing stock among all but the most loyal Nintendo gamers and N64 nostalgics. It will be rightly decried as a waste of Retro's talents, as yet more proof that Nintendo is living in the past, as a hallmark of Nintendo's failure to diversify their software output beyond the same play-it-safe genres. It will fail to move systems. It will further diminish Retro's reputation.

Nintendo has to prioritze actual system sellers, or they will perish.

You say that like the audience that buys kart racers actually know and care who Retro is. It's a game, it looks like Mario Kart, and it's all over the commercials. That's all anyone who buys this will care about. No one gives a shit about video game politics. It absolutely won't move systems. It will move software, which is all it needs to do. It's all the original did. Not every game is meant to be a system seller. And Retro isn't the only studio that can make Metroid.

A kart racer is playing it safe? What? How many of those are out there? A new Metroid is taking a risk? Come off it.

Nintendo can't afford to keep making games that aren't. They will die out if they don't start making the kind of games that will draw non-fans in.

Nintendo can't afford to only make games that are. Do you even get that? What company has ever only sold system sellers? None, because that isn't realistic.

They need to make as many as possible. DKR2 would be wasting time and resources by taking one of Nintendo's best studios and making them work on a game that won't move hardware.

well maybe ill fire up my Wii U and moan on there as they seem to read miiverse.

Diddy Kong Racing 2 is a collaboration between Monster Games and Retro Studios with Kensuke Tanabe as the producer. Monster Games is also working on another side (small) project that isn’t related to Diddy Kong Racing 2. Retro Studios is working on a separate main project of their own as well.

Just like I expected.. Retro is probably just providing the assets just like they did with MK7, so you guys can calm the fuck down!

Well, if that really is true then it's ok I guess. Sounds like a fun game with the animal transformations (if they're still there at least).

I just hope it doesn't affect Retro's main project.

Making a good game that will sell well with a good team is not wasting time and resources.

It is when your console is struggling and desperately needs system sellers of a kind that studio can deliver better than any other first party team.
