Forums - Gaming - Do people still care about Trophies / Achievements ?

It doesn't much matter to me, but I will admit there are some achievement/trophies I like to get, specifically ones that challenge you to play a game in a way you may not have considered or oddball challenges. One of my favorites came from half life 2 episode 2 where you had to lug around a garden gnome from the start of the game all the way to the end and put it on the rocket to launch into space. It was stupid and pointless, but it left me with an odd feeling of pride as I watched the gnome launch.

The worst of the worst though are the ones that unlock from natural progression through the game.

thats the difference though right?, theres trophies/achievements that ask you to do things you wouldnt normally do, then theres those that pat you on the back for utterly stupid things like, oh hey you made your first character, perhaps you're not a 2 year old vegetable after all, have a cookie.

Yes, but only if you use the widest possible definition of people.

The all time worst was the walking dead, and telltale games in general lately.  Sad part is that they were fairly creative with their implementation before, at least in back to the future, and I don't remember if the sam and max games even had them, they didn't on steam at any rate, at least for the first two seasons.

good thing now they have the rarity for it...

Quite. It's a very good a way to take your game further and interact with other players

When you can use multiple copies of the same game/glitches/hacks/rig online matches to boost your score. Trophies/achievements are pretty pointless.

Damn you! I was going to post the same link!

Damn are you a Gengie Bouchard fan too :D?

ya sorta, if I know I get a trophy for doing something specific in a game I am already playing I tend to do that (ie Get 10 kill while swinging from a rope in AC4) but I don't in the sense I don't go way out of my way to get a trophy, for instance I am literally 2 bronze trophies is NFS Rivals from a Plat. but I have not gotten around to finishing it and that does not bother me.

I like them in sense it "catalogs" the games I play. Like looking through my collection and seeing I have 67% in Fallout 3, or FF13, or Skyim, or what not helps bring back good memories of any specific game.

It kinda makes me wish they had them when I was a kid, would be fun to look at what trophies I earned when I was playing DKC, Mario Kart, or Mario World back in the 90s.
